Just wondering if anyone else is having troubles opening IC charting. After clicking on the shortcut(desktop or start menu) it takes about 30 seconds before anything happens. No other applications have this problem.Once it has opened, there are no problems. The only thing out of the ordinary was when I finally opened IC on the weekend, the tool bars were all over the place. The only problem now seems to be a reluctance to crank up.Thanks.

The trouble is at startup, so it is probably related to your Internet bandwidth. I assume you are both on broadband. What download speed does your ISP provide? Please run a traceroute and send the results. Regards, Colin

Dolphin,Thanks for reply..At least I'm not the only one Colin....Have just run a speed check via beltronica and it comes back as... Download....205kbps (25.64KBps) Upload......50.72kbps (6.34KBps) which isn't too bad at all. I will try to muddle through traceroute tomorrow so please be patient with me. Hopefully others will read these posts and realise that IC, apart from being an easy to use application, always has somebody on the other end of the keyboard to help with these problems that arise with any web based application. Cheers. (Message edited by rockon on July 23, 2008)

Rockon, Also attach any recent debug files. You will find these at C: >> Program Files >> Incredible Charts >> Debug. Files are named by date (e.g. 20060104_104454.txt was created January 4, 2006). Regards, Colin

If you are running ad-blocking software, please exclude Incredible Charts. It delays opening of the charting software. Regards, Colin

I have just uninstalled Adaware and Spybot. These are the only non windows blocking devices apart from AVG antivirus that I had on the computer.I have deleted any loose files associated with these 2 programs and have turned off the pop up blocker.IC is ticked elsewhere as being a friendly site. I dont know where to look for any other settings etc. so I will just keep poking round till I find something.Definitely a timing problem with every startup taking 65secs before anything happens. No probs once open so no huge hassle on my end,so I will leave it at that. Thanks to Colin and the team for the prompt action.Cheers.

Colin (and Dolphin) I have just found that most settings on AVG have reverted to default.I have no idea how this has happened but IC hasn't been getting blocked, It's been getting scanned before being allowed to open.My apologies for causing this enquiry as the fault has been 100% on my end.Hopefully this can be used to save hassles in the future.Maybe an entry in FAQ isn't such a bad idea.Still, strange though how IC was the only program affected, but all seems ok for now. Thanks again for the help and sorry again for the inconvenience.

Colin I didn't have a specific problem with IC and AVG, but with AVG 8 in general. As far as I am concerned it is a step backwards from previous versions of AVG. I have since gone to Avast Home v4.8. I don't like it as much as the old AVG but it is a lot better than AVG v8.0 Regards Sway

I had a few early problems with the new version of AVG which settled down eventually, but I still cannot explain the toolbars on IC being scattered across the page last week.If this didn't happen to anyone else, then I think this particular problem may have been unique to my computer.I had a small problem about 18 months ago where the computer started up in black and white(nothing to do with IC). I reached across and pulled the plug out of the powerpoint. When I plugged back in and restarted, everything was back to normal and I havent had a problem since so strange things do happen....I have also spoken to a mate this morning who says that Adaware and Spybot don't always live in harmony. He reckons that their paths cross occasionally and that can cause general computer problems but that can't be substantiated. Just to be on the safe side, I only have Spybot now...Cheers.

Just out of interest I timed an IC startup. It took 9 seconds to get to the login screen, then a further 26 seconds until my default chart was displayed. I think that is slower than it used to be. I have a 1.5Mb/sec ADSL connection. Cheers Sway

Sway, I got 13sec and 10 sec which I am happy with. If you have a look at the AVG settings it may help but if the settings are ok then I can't help.Open your AVG and... Click on.....Tools >> Advanced Settings>> Resident Shield and if the box marked "Scan potentially unwanted programs and spyware threats" is ticked then go to the resident shield pane on the left and hit >>Exceptions. You can then add IC to a list and hopefully all will be good...Hope this helps. PS....Just read your posts again a |
