Please re iterate the point of a moderator Colin or Robin? I was of the understanding that they would set a precedent for the community of IC ... Sadly I see some of them as shadows and endorsements of rude behaviour. It's not a good look, only my opinion but as I'm receiving emails that aren't even relevant to threads I've subscribed too, may I suggest you Play leader and tell some of your moderators that to put others down was not the intention of the power you vested in them. You hoped they would help You in stopping people trashing others. I'll be turning my email subscription off, that should eliminate my problem. What are you going to do about yours? Kindest regards and I wish you and your families well. Julles

Julles, Thanks for the feedback. Robin and I are the moderators. Perhaps we have dropped a few catches and let through a few posts that should have been deleted. No one, including the moderators, are exempt from the forum rules. If you have a complaint about a specific post, please forward this to me. Regards, Colin

... Unlike the position of Moderator on other forums, IC is unique, Julles. The position is not that of Moderator, it is actually that of Advisory Panel Member, and as such, is honorary, and voluntary. Frankly, I could do without it. It is tedious having to look over my shoulder every time I want to have a whinge, or post something cynical, tongue-in-cheek, controversial, challenging, or just different. The Julles' of the world are ever there, waiting to deride anyone who has accepted the call to be a volunteer, and snipe away, trying to gain personal Brownie Points just for noticing that a few panel members got involved in an exchange of opinions. As you may have noticed, it did not degenerate into a personal slanging match, but like most males with their tentacles functioning and intact, we seemed to have settled the differences without female assistance (again). When did Colin, Robin, or any of the Panel ever receive any gratitude for taking the difficult decisions? There have been some, I can assure you, and there are many occasions where decisions are not unanimous. The Advisory Panel has to put aside personal bias - let's face it squarely, no one gets on well with everyone - and treat each situation as fairly, and openly as we can. The Julles of old would have been positive, congratulatory, compassionate and appreciative. Since you have been cooking for another outfit, your personal charisma has copped a lashing - too much people-pleasing, Julles. You've changed - not for the better. Get back to your old, informative, friendly, contributory self, please. My position on the panel is up for the taking - you are welcome to it. To other panel members: I offered first - if there is someone willing to move onto the Advisory Panel, I get first choice at vacating a position.

Colin I thank you for picking up my meaning concerning moderation. Trashy stuff just shouldn't be aloud in my opinion, no matter what thread we are on. I've enjoyed what you have created with your forum for conversing about charts. I for one have strayed from the norm in conversation but always within the group. Traders Groups. I do read other forums and sometimes I contribute, but I fear it is the reprimand of folk for posting Outside of my Square Simply, I am not jealous of the folk chosen to be on the panel. I just don't believe there should be a panel. It segregates the community into ..... Thou are Blessed for thou opinion This subject is controversial I know and I'm not posting to stir the pot. I just want you to think about it in the broder context. Julles

Julles It is my understanding that panel membership will be rotated on an annual basis with one or more current members retiring In the meantime everyone has the ability to be an Adviser by making vigorous and constructive use of the Feedback Forum and your views are as worthy of consideration as those of every Forum Member Not every view here or within the Panel is accepted by The Moderator(s), but the more views that are offered responsibly here in Feedback the better With Best Wishes Hilarius

Hilarious, I realised from simply responding to my statement, ie the thread name that it wouldn't suit all folks. I am deeply concerned and despondent about the behaviour conducted by respected members of this community and I choose to let it be known. I have met you , and I do believe now that I misjudged you, I never saw you as one to pick on anyone!!! Recent behaviour on particular threads dictates differently. Oh dear Claudious, Please tell me you didn't mean to be cruel! I've lost faith in the empire dear Sir. Wise men think with their Hearts not their feet. Julles God bless

Unfortuneatley Colin and Robin I Will Not be Able to do my Time in volunteer work within your biding, because I solidly believe I do the work of the time when I come back to this forum time and time again and contribute. Just being myself. Again I stress the panel thingy has changed contributors personality, just look at Spiders lack of posts, Suzi Q won't say boo, Ingot know's everything about everything to everyone, Hilarious has to justify all the panel members reasoning. I believe having formulated the panel of moderators , oops sorry panel members, it's actually created ultra personalities amongst the chosen few. Some and I'm seeing 3 lately have not chosen to post at all. In my opinion Colin it's just not going to work. Braveheart !

Julles I accept your criticism which I know was meant to be constructive Sometimes when I express a strong view people disagree strongly and my reply to that is taken personally by them I've never had an intention to hurt anyone, but one person took my strong statements personally I will try to do better, by going back to posting charts and staying off hot topics Hilarius

My idea of moderating... Get rid of the "panel" of moderators and let the IC community moderate. Add a button to the posts which allow users to identify a post that they believe requires moderator attention. The user picks from a list of rules that the post breaks. The post is highlighted as "Under Review". Enforce the forum rules and delete a post that has any hint of breaking them. The post is replaced with the rule that it broke. Possibly, having the community highlight posts that need attention would make the work of a moderator easier. RB

G'day All It seems a pity that there can't be made a 'rule' outlawing 'sycophants' ie 'sucking up' (my definition) and posters who continually make 'commentary' on others' posts with no redeeming 'positives'. jm2cw

Redbellie An alert button is a good idea, but it can also be open to abuse As we see in some reality programmes original thinkers and unusual personalities (Dug comes to mind) can often be excluded by group-think or undermined by other strong personalities Fairness is an issue, therefore At the very least someone using an alert button should be prepared to cite the rule in question and provide their view on the matter, so they have done a little homework before complaining Zorba, do you have any examples? Unspecified charges are not really useful but evidence is With Best Wishes Hilarius (Message edited by Hilarius on February 05, 2006)
