Hi Colin Sorry i have taken so long to reply as i have been busy at work. .......... Also everything seems to be going a lot better since i changed to another internet company. I am not getting that 'Error 500' message any more wjb Thanks WJB What ISP are you now using? We should start a list of recommended ISPs. Colin Colin, your suggestion re. starting a list of ISP's is validated by the BIG POND mess. I rang OPTUSNET a week ago and again this AM to quote to them the two times I see on my screen for messages, the first I see as being the time it is input to the sender computer and the second the time it arrives here. The difference on yesterday's lot ranged from 5 to 14 hours. Their answer was today that all problems have been fixed, last week it was that maybe the clock is wrong at the sender's end. I would be extremely interested in comparisons with other providers. Unfortunately I had not thought about noting private messages, but will in future. I am aware that there must be a heavy load on FORUM. The SEND button for this will be hit at 12.02pm. Cheers Bill. Bill We have received emails up to 2 days late because of Bigpond. What would be better is an ISP ranking, where members can rank their ISPs based on service, speed, responsiveness to problems, help documentation, etc. For dial-up accounts, I have been impressed with iPrimus and unimpressed with Bigpond. For cable, I have only used Bigpond but am not impressed. Would like to a better ISP. I will place a copy of this message under "Reviews: ISPs", where we can continue the thread. Colin

Morning all Colin this will certainly prove to be once again an interesting thread our vast array of providers should certainly be interested to see the results My imput is for a dial up connection with hotkey.net.au points in their favour great backup, constant supply and middle of the range cost limited to 648mg is the only downside previously with tpg and had poor results We probably need a check list to simplify the data imput thus allowing an accurate acceptance of our isp people in real time usage is this what you intended Colin. cheers Graham

Graham, Yes. We do not need a complicated checklist, just a few simple headings: (1) Service Their attitude towards their customers - do you feel they care, or couldn't give a ...? (2) Support How do they respond to help requests (if at all)? Is their documentation helpful or confusing? (3) Reliability Is the service reliable? Is the speed as promised or dreadfully slow? Can you always get a connection? Are their cache servers set to cram the maximum number of users down their bandwidth or do they provide a quality service? (4) Email/Newsletters. Do they deliver your email/newsletters on time, hours late or not at all? Primus Dial-up Connection Service: Good. Excellent pricing. Support: Good. Documentation clear. Reliability: Occasionally have to dial twice in peak periods. Otherwise good. Email/Newsletters: Fair Bigpond Broadband Service: Couldn't give a .... Pricing structure poor - esp. if you exceed your Gb allowance. Support: Not really interested. Documentation confusing. Reliability: Improving. Email/Newsletters: Slipping I wonder how IC would rate? Possibly an idea for another thread. Colin (Message edited by colin_twiggs on October 20, 2003)

Internode ADSL Service: Good Pricing structure: good, but a little more expensive than others Support: Good Reliability: Very reliable due to Layer 2 (L2TP) access.. Although we have not tried their flatrate plans.. (in that case, speed could vary...)
