Just read an interesting article in The Age................. http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/02/27/1046064163889.html The title says something about 'a market wizard'. Yet another bloke who used gobs of other people's money to trade with. Surprise, surprise, he made a lot of money during the bull market (market wizard?) but now that the going is tough, he doesn't want to do it any more! But this is my favourite quote from the article...........He holds only about 25 stocks at any one time and says his portfolio is down less than the broader market this year. This is a market wizard? spider.

This is a short piece on Jack Schwager, you know, the "Market Wizards' guy. I've got a problem with this bloke, but for what it is worth, here it is............. http://www.moneybags.com.au/profile.asp?id=1363&;a=27

I've only read one of these, so I can only recommend it. It's the first link.......... How to profit in a bull and bear market by Stan Weinstein, some people see it as the bible for position traders, I just think it is EXCELLENT, and anyone who tries to trade without reading it is nuts. All these books are supposed to be about bear trading, the second one is by Mr Guppy, this bloke writes a lot of books, for mine they mostly are short on substance and long on padding, but that's me. You might think differently, Mr G has a lot of fans. The third one is new to me, but I will check it out next time I am in a book store, if it is any good I will let you know. http://www.moneybags.com.au/default.asp?d=0&t=1&id=940&c=0&a=27 http://www.moneybags.com.au/default.asp?d=0&t=1&id=2704&c=0&a=27 http://www.moneybags.com.au/default.asp?d=0&t=1&id=4193&c=0&a=27

Hey guys, thanks alot for recommending "Trading for a Living" by Dr. Alexander Elder. It is a great read. There is so much information packed into such a small book. I'm going to have to change my username soon as I'm getting less confused about all this stuff. Happy Trading, Jens.

Yo Jens, the power of words dude. Your subconscience believes EVERYTHING it hears, particularly when you say it. If you wish to be enlightened, then say to yourself "enlightened", and if you say it enough, your subconscience will eventually believe you, and act as if it EXPECTS to be enlightened. Sorry for the 'soap box' bit dude, but this stuff really works. Always be careful what you tell yourself. Glad you liked the book. Isn't it cool when the veil starts to lift? Which part of the world are you from dude? Thankyou for filling out your profile in such a colourful way, I really enjoyed the read. spider.

We had our monthly meeting (last Wednesday of the month) last Wednesday. Wow! We doubled our numbers from last month! We were trying out a new venue (williamat must be exhausted finding new places for us to meet, well done Bill). A big group presents it's own special set of challenges, but I think we handled it well. I was impressed by everyones patience. Everyone had a chance to speak, and what a quality group of presentations it was. It was a real buzz to have 'uturn' back with us after a couple of months off. He has promised to put together a presentation on 'Trends and Tripwires' for us in the near future. Scalper has offered to put together a presentation on option writing for our next meeting, that is one not to miss. I learned a long time ago that it is very important to associate with the kind of people you would like to become. Well, if you want to become an intelligent, open minded, friendly, helpful, generous, funny, articulate person, you should have been in that room last Wednesday ! As always, as a group, we come at the challenge of taking money out of the market, from a variety of directions. But some things are the same for all of us. Entries ,exits, money management, personal demons, personal ambitions. The willingness to share, in this group, is amazing. It was excellent to see so many enthusiastic new faces. The service at the restaurant was excellent (that poor girl going up and down those stairs!), the food was very good (or at least mine was), plenty to drink if you wanted it, and we had the upstairs to ourselves. After killing the music, we had a fighting chance of hearing what was going on. Well done to those shy ones who had to speak loudly to allow the hearing impaired among us to share in your wisdom. We have come to the conclusion that no venue is going to be perfect, the trick seems to be to have a place that is reasonable comfortable, with food and drink available, that is reasonably private, and that is flexible enough to cope with expanding and contracting numbers. This venue seems to provide most of these. Picking a mid week day helps, as there is not as much 'general public' around, even in a place like Toorak Rd, so it is quieter and there is parking. I learned some things Wednesday night, but more importantly than that, I made some new friends, and caught up with with some old ones. I was also sparked to go back and dig out some old books that I have read, and to try a new trading technique, a 'new string to the bow', if it works out well, i will bore you with the details at some later date. If you are out there, thinking of starting a group, or just trying to hold one together, take heart. Trading groups a a very liquid thing, people come and go, new people show interest. Considering the nature of trading, it is a miracle that we ever get together in the first place! Despite the large number at this meeting, there are only five members left from the original meeting, and only two that have been to every meeting. Spider, for one, is not a joiner of groups! I'm amazed that I am here, but I am, and glad to be. You would travel a long way to associate with this calibre of people, and I do! Looking forward to next month. spider.

Yo spider, Not sure if you got my message. I just noticed that I don't have an option to read PMs so you probably don't either. I'm from the other side of the planet. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to be precise. Break out the atlas and have a look. It's amazing how much smaller the world seems since the inception of the Internet. Again thanks for recommending the book guys. I picked up the study guide too so I'll be working though that soon. Your group meetings sound like a great time. I wish it didn't cost a zillion dollars and 1 day travel to get there. Maybe I'll pop by someday. Cheers, Jens.

Yo confused, I did receive your PM, and I thought I answered it. But spider is a bit 'out of it' these days, so maybe I forgot. In any case, I was stoked that you were from the land of the mispronounced vowel! It is extremely cool to be about to converse with dudes on the other side of the world (you even have a different hemisphere!) I know that we are know as 'down under', but we don't refer to you guys as up and over. Yours is a beautiful country, and you live in a particularly pretty part of that country. Do you also trade the Canadian market. Do you come across many Aussies, we see a lot of Canadians here (I live in a popular tourist area). Regards spider.
