Nice of them to mention this AFTER THE EVENT!

....it is our will that allows us to achieve our goals, not our intellect. Talent is not enough. Luck is not enough. Only the will to suffer hard work and incredible persistence leads to the attainment of the impossible. There are no shortcuts; there is no easy way. Especially, as you will find out, in the stock market.

trademaker listed this in another place.
He is right, this is an interesting read.
Try and overlook the fact that this guy writes for 'Shares' magazine, and that his approach is that of an investor not a trader. It's still a good read.

Hi Spider/Trademaker

I had the opportunity of learning charting under Colin Nicholson in the Diploma course of Securities Inst. Thats where my strategy of Long term trading came from.We used trading for a Living as our text book then. That was several years back. With the introduction of 50% discount of CGT gives me a better reason to do so.

David Jones was the person who introduced me to Charting 12 years ago. He is a friend of Ivan Kristen who wrote the book "Listen to the Market" It was very expensive those days by today's standard. I haven't heard anything about him nowadays..David taught me all about Elliot Waves and Fibonacci calculation. He was a very good teacher and for some time he was lecturing charting at the evening college. I was lucky to have his personal coaching for some time. Today we still get together now and then.

Not satisfied with Elliot Waves and other indicators, I was trying to find something about candlesticks. On the website I discovered Louis Bedford's candlestick. Louise's book is very practical for the use in Australia. I have all her 3 books. I recommend them for reading. However to get the best use of any good books, you have to read them over and over again, each time discovering some new points.
Spider and the Captain gives me inspiration of going into short term trade again, however I only trade a few. The big picture is still managing my portfolio.

I am lucky because I enjoyed reading trading books and have my own private library of them.My other background is I used to have my own business in Singapore working as a management consultant specialising in getting company back to financial health.

Cheers

Peterloh

As traders we need to understand the workings of our brains, and the brains of others.
This is a good read.

Certainly interesting and is consistent with my temperamental preference theories..

In regards to science and art, there are two sides - people with a sensing orientation who prefer trial and error and those with an intuitive orientation prefer to concentrate on hypothesis/theory first and testing second. Being an intuitively oriented person myself, I'd like to say that science is driven by intuition, but my point of view is of course biased. Artistry also has two sides, but I'd say that it is more sensing (and perceiving) oriented. That said, the only person I know who is into ballet has an intuitive feeling preference.

I'd also like to point out that intuition does not necessarily have to be feeling based - indeed much of the greatest scientists and engineers (in my opinion anyway ) have been intuitive thinkers.

There has been some discussion on the forum regarding a trailing ATR stop. This is an article on that subject..........
