Just got this one, but I have been reading it at the bookstore for a few weeks. The author makes a great case for long-term trend following. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0131446037/qid=1106362411/sr=2-1/ref=pd_k a_b_2_1/102-9602547-9104969

Mojoe - had not heard of it - thanks. Could you please give a brief summary of topics covered when you have had a few days to absorb it.

The book is by Michael Covel who is http://www.turtletrader.com/ Some time back there was a lot of controversy about them on this and others forums, you might want to do a search about. Here's another site that may confuse you more. http://www.originalturtles.org/index.htm (Message edited by pilgrim on January 22, 2005) (Message edited by pilgrim on January 22, 2005)

Yes pilgrim - I did a search about 8 months ago, and even today, I am not sure whether there was a scam or not. The original turtles were a closed group - taught in secret. I heard that they needed to have a US$250k account to commence with. Several people, including one of the "original" turtles have purported, at one time or another, to teach the method! As I know zilch about forex/commodities trading, it was a curiosity for me only. Still, I love a good yarn, so maybe there's more to be told ...

Wow! I'm thrilled that others have purchased this book and all you clever people are now discussing it! I bought the book a few weeks back and have only gotten round to reading it now. Before buying it I hadn't come across anyone's opinion of it - positive, negative or otherwise. So far, I've only read the first few chapters that make up Part I and have found it goes on a bit about all the successful trend followers (including Bill Dunn, John W. Henry, Ed Seykota, and Richard Dennis - the very Richard Dennis of "Turtle Trader" fame or infamy), perhaps more than I'd like, but in the process it does hammer home a number of valuable messages about the mindset required for following trends. Whilst I find this information very interesting and doubtless important, appreciating as I do that having a method alone will not allow one to succeed, I still very much need the nuts-and-bolts to get myself started off on the right footing. This, I hope, will be covered in some detail in the remainder of the book. I'm a bit pressed for time right now, but I'd be more than happy to piece together a more detailed synopsis or a summary of the salient points raised in the book at some other time if anyone is interested. All the best, Sam.
