Just wondering if anybody has problems with CMC/deal4free OHLC prices being frequently at variance with the market's. I swing trade the UK market, and have found that it's pointless doing TA from reliable market-based data, due to the variance between their prices, and CMC's. (For a short term trader, who deals in small percentages, accuracy is very important). As a result, I have moved away from CFD trading stocks, and am starting to look at sectors, on which CMC don't charge commissions, and their OHLC data is a little more reliable. For starters, CMC's MarketMaker is at odds with itself, over OHLC. Some time back I e-mailed their UK helpdesk, and this software bug has still not been addressed. Their response to my e-mail was along the lines of "our market opening and closing times might be different, and we are a marketmaker, so we have the right to quote our own pricing, but our prices definitely move in harmony with the market, so it won't affect your trading". For example, if I open the sector UKFOOD in a Group Price Window, it gives the values: Open = 3660 High = 3603 Low = 3602 Close = 3608 Note that, firstly, the Open and Close prices both exceed the High for the day (13 January 2006)!! Secondly, if one proceeds to a Chart of UKFOOD, the value box (for 13 January 2006) shows: Open = 3624 High = 3624 Low = 3590 Close = 3603 which are significantly different to those above. EODdata (www.eoddata.com, a free, reliable data service) meanwhile gives the values as: Open = 3643.7 High = 3643.7 Low = 3595.1001 Close = 3604.6201 These are, again, very different from CMC (19 points difference between the day's high, for example). Financial Express Prestel (another reliable EOD data source for the FTSE) gives: Open = 3643.7 High = 3643.7 Low = 3595.1 Close = 3604.6 i.e. agreement with EODdata. British Bulls (http://www.britishbulls.com/Indices.asp) agrees 100% with Financial Express. DigitalLook (http://www.digitallook.com/cgi-bin/digital/security.cgi?action=prices&csi=50085& sub_action=history) also agrees 100%. So we have four independent data sources in agreement, while CMC is not only at significant variance, but it can't even agree with itself! Above is a very typical situation with sectors; if you think that this is bad, then pricing discrepancies for stocks is frequently even worse! I believe part of the problem is that CMC use yesterday's closing price as today's opening price, which means that today's high or low can potentially also be equal to yesterday's close. But even this doesn't explain some of the wild variations that I've encountered. I'm curious as to whether anybody who uses CMC to trade either UK or Aussie CFDs has experienced similar difficulties, and assuming they use an 'independent' charting package (e.g. IC) to perform TA around EOD price bars, how they work around the discrepancies. Many thanks David

David I have experimented with CMC's demo. (their ASX 20) They say it's 20 minute delayed but the charts say "data is real time" and start flowing when the market opens. What ever they are they don't move close enough to the ASX to use another charting program. (I'm talking intraday) I assume that's why they provide their own charts - they would have to. This market maker system has some real concerns. snorter

Hi I have been trading with CMC for some time now and yes they r a bunch of tossers! they will do u over, the customer, whenever they feel like it. i have seen some crazy variations in fx prices! thats y i am going to be moving over to IG to trade my fx as they sound a lot more honourable, but all will be known very soon! the bottom line, stay away from CMC, they r pirates of the electronic age!

Iwillwin, I've traded with both and found IG to be a pleasant experience compared to CMC Its been a while since I closed my CMC account. I see nothing has changed!
