Wall Street.
This is a classic traders movie. I've seen it a couple of times. People love to use this movie as an example of the 'big bad 80's'. This is a too simplistic view.
Watch it with an open mind.

ROGUE TRADER.

This is an excellent true story.
Nick Leeson was the trader who incurred monster losses, which ultimately brought down Barings bank (not the first time this had happened in the history of Barings, but the last time, in the 1800's, the Bank of England, which was then a private bank, bailed them out).

The collapse was not all Leeson's fault.
Not a great movie, but a great story.

BOILER ROOM.

This has some excellent people in it, some who were yet to have big careers.
The director / writer made the movie based on his own experiences.

It's a bit simplistic, but reasonably entertaining.
If you get the DVD ,it has an alternate ending.
It's a bit preachy, but what are you gonna do?

TRADING PLACES.

Now this is an oldie, but a goodie.
Very funny, excellent actors, some of whom are no longer with us.

Worth the watch just for the scene towards the end in the Futures exchange.

TV SHOW

CAPITAL CITY.

This one was shown on the ABC a few years back. On cable more recently (Arena I think).
Made in the early 90's it gives a good idea of a floor trader at a merchant bank during that era.
I really enjoyed this series.

Being shown on Foxtel at the moment.

Barbarians at the Gate:

Great movie. Check it out. About the biggest LBO in corporate history. Not a trading movie however.

Boiler Room:

Average.

Glengarry Glen Ross:

I used to watch this movie regularly when I was a sales trader at ML a few years back. What an excellent movie. Cannot recommend it enough.

Wall Street:

The classic. Nuff said.

Rogue Trader:

The problem with this film was that too much story was being crammed in so that a lot of material was being superficially covered.

Trading Places:

Hilarious. A la Turtle Traders.
