Am half way through watching Channel 9's 'The Secret' that was on the other night. Did anyone on the forum catch it, or have seen it already? The concept that prosperity and happiness in life is all about your mental projection. If you focus on the negatives in life (like debt!) this is what you will attract. If you switch your thought processes to focussing on the positive aspects of your life, or what you would like your life to be like (like happy and wealthy) then the law of attraction will bring this to you. Just curious as to your thoughts. Motivationally speaking, it has some good merit to it.

Hi David...have had the DVD for a while and agree with what you are saying. A similar theme runs through the recommended book "Trading in the Zone" though applied to trading (obviously ). I certainly think the movie has a lot of merit...but thought it focussed an awful lot on (almost) pure greed and selfishness...ie looking after one's self above others. Money was a common thread but as my wife insists that was just to make the program attractive for people to watch! Maybe they are right and I have a belief system that needs re-jigging! If you liked The Secret...and have an open mind and a head for a bit of physics (and meta-physics)...try viewing the DVD "What the Bleep do we Know"? go forth in prosperity, wadda

I saw the program. Being a psychologist specialising in goal setting and stress management, I have been teaching these principles for years now. Believe me, it works Eric

Thanks for those comments Eric - I often wondered what traditional professionals in that area thought of the 'new age' adaption. Sounds like the good thing is just wrapped differently, a positive I would say. Cheers, wadda

Sounds like a selfish, egotistical approach to life. What does the Spouse, partner have to say about all this. I assume they have been consulted, and do they also need to go through this thought process

The biggest problem with a Secret is When you tell any one person "The Secret" It is no longer "A Secret" Go figure that one out? Secrets and Technical Analysis are often described as "Tautological" Go figure that one out, also? I can't do everything myself! Salute and Gods' Speed

I wanted to add to this thread when it started, but I got sidetracked. Firstly, I suggest that if you are reading this, you stop for a moment and go back and read all the previous posts, you will find it very enlightening. There have always been secrets, and people have worked very hard to protect those secrets, people have even been killed to protect them, especially in war time. We have all seen the movies, and read the books. People love secrets. Our image of what a secret is has been coloured by our 'movie' experience. We think that secrets are painfully uncovered (and in most cases this is true). This preconception is the reason that it is so easy to hide something in plain sight. The reasoning being that if it is important it must be hidden. In the middle ages 'guilds' would jealously guard the 'secrets' of their trade. These days 'professions' hide their secrets behind years of expensive study. Knowing all this, it is really not surprising that people would be sceptical if a 'secret' was put in front of them, without them having to dig for it. qed was right, Napoleon Hill was researching and writing about this well before this 'forgotten' book was written. In truth, this secret has been 'know' for centuries, but it seems that it needs to be rediscovered by each new generation. Anthony Robbins is probably the main one from our era. Why is it so difficult to see? Many years ago, when I first read "Think and Grow Rich" I was desperate to 'understand', and it did not help my cause much to find that Napoleon Hill was not going to tell me what the secret was on page one! He was going to make me dig for it! Napoleon Hill understood people and their need for complexity. So he made me dig. I'm embarrased to say that it took me many readings and several years before I fully understood the secret that he was so generously giving me. You see, the problem is that the "teacher appears when the student is ready". I'm sure that you have heard that before, and probably wondered what it meant. Of the people that have contributed to this thread, how many do you think are "ready for the teacher to appear"? It really does not matter how long it takes for you to 'get it'. The important thing is the intense desire to understand. There are people on this forum (myself included) who have shared this secret with you, over and over again. A famous old Roman had two important things to say: "They can do all because they think they can." and, "Each of us bears his own Hell." The answer to the secret, that we all seek, is in those two Virgil quotes. spider.

Doesn't use of the term "secret" evoke feelings of exclusivity, superiority even? I would suggest that we all know the secret; it's just that we want someone else to spell it out for us. Take back your power - the secret is within each of us!

Hey suemac is on to something... There seems to be an interesting trend here - why do products that contain the word 'secret' nearly always cost money and come in the form of a DVD or book? maybe its a law of the universe?
