I had been trading in stocks for a while and had been good with them. But recently have been facing a bit trouble from the market and have incurred some losses. I am looking for a system that helps me to judge the right kind of moves in the stock market and prove as a guide to smart investing.

Need your valuable suggestions to find a good one!!!

Let me see if I got this right.

You live in the USA - have given us no personal details or details of your trading experience or system.

And in your maiden post - you ask for the keys to the Executive Washroom.

I assume you haven't bothered to read many of the fine threads on this forum - else you wouldn't have asked the question.

All I can say is that you certainly have enough nerve to be a trader.

I'll answer your message with the same contempt you showed for forum members in posting it:-

1. To go long - buy high and sell higher.
2. To shorten a stock - buy high and sell lower.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a grumpy old man and can be quite helpful - if I see that a person has made an effort to help themselves.

But I do not take lightly to be taken for a fool - and that's what your post has done.

I suggest you get off your arse and do some of your own hard work instead of just coming in here and asking for a free ride or hand out.

And for those bleeding heart Forum Members that are offended by my direct and blunt response to this person's post - tell it to someone who cares.

I'm tired of these forum members sucking up to people only to find out later that they have been conned and been used - as tired I am of blow-ins like this.

vjohn smith,

Many members of this Forum ‘had been trading in stocks for a while and had been good at them!’

Now of course the downturn has made trading/investing hard for all. The risk is higher, and the probability of winning much less.

Your request reminded me vividly of a wonderful exchange on this Forum several years ago when there had been a number of newly arrived members to the Forum seeking as it was then put ‘keys to the executive wash room on day one.’ One experienced Member lost patience with the newly arrived, and in his brusque blunt but essentially helpful way, told them to read the rich array of information in the Archives of this Forum dealing with trading/investing methodologies, and then come to the chat room to ask questions, where much help will be given.

His frustration centered on the fact that each of us have to ride up the learning curve our own way, in the context of our own personalities and values. Further, there are many methods of trading and investing as there are individual personalities. You might have a preference for high/low risk; short term/long term; long only or long + short; etc.. General wisdom is that it takes five years or so to develop a hard-centered methodology, confidence and skill level to be consistently successful. i.e. you can’t be a surgeon or 747 pilot by just getting the manual. It takes years of practice, experience, and developing your refinement of judgment before reliable day-in day-out success is claimed

So vjohn smith, there is no Incrediblecharts Fairy Godmother Member to provide you with a proven, hard-times investment methodology. There are heaps of methods to choose from here in the Archives. But the core of being good at investing or trading is not the methodology, although that is of course important, it is your ability to defeat your own emotions, to apply your methodology with dispassion, discipline, objectivity, and consistency. Such is extremely hard for most of us, and achievable by just a few.

Finally, another Member of this Forum quoted something wise in this context: It takes the belief in yourself and the commitment to endure the inevitable Valleys of Death. Nothing great comes without trials and tribulations. The Universe likes to make sure that we are truly committed before giving us what it is that we desire. We will hear from all quarters how it can’t be done. It is up to us to keep going and cross the valley! Bijoy Goswami - The Human Fabric.
Good luck vjohn smith in working your own way up your learning curve to the rarified realm of success.

Seahound

I have seen this post on other forums.

It will soon be followed by one that states:

"Sorry to hear about the losses….but that is a part of the trade….you lose some and you win some…..but I myself use a system that works just fine for me and that is a perfect teacher for in all terms ….there are many out there but I believe on this as I am using it. This is a good Day trading system that can make you comfortable in the stock market."

The post contains a link to web site.

Its a scam to promote a dubious stock advising service site. Hopefully Colin's filtering catches the second post - you might as well ignore the first poster.

Resillent,

Thanks for the heads up.
I should have just kicked the first one into touch .... and saved Bundy's blood pressure :-)

Ohhhhhhhh, Colin, don't spoil my fun - I enjoyed dusting off the old "executive washroom" line - you should have seen my eyes light up when I saw the opportunity present itself. :-)

As an aside - I don't subscribe to many threads these days - I lurk in a few of them and am happy to participate if I think I can add something new to a discussion - but for the hell of me, I can't think of anything that hasn't been covered over the many years I've been a Forum member.

I guess also, trading options, there are very few people to talk to - although I have had a few email exchanges with a couple of traders - but I don't let them take up too much time as life is very busy these days - I never realised that retirement (semu at least) can be so demanding on your time.

I guess I should log in to see if some of the old timers of yesteryear are still around - I sort of miss some of the friendly banter.

But I understand that in these volatile trading times - some share traders might be struggling and need to remain focused - while option traders are thankful for the opportunities they present - volatility is the bread of option traders.

Oh well, back to hibernating in the best climate in Australia, if not the universe.
