I have noticed that the word 'courage' has been used quite a bit in discussions on trading, with one poster saying that it was an overlooked element.

Initially I thought that courage was an important part of a traders development in the early stages, with less importance once a system had been settled on.
The word conjures up images of Captain Jack Sparrow swinging from the rigging.

So what part does 'courage' play in the life of a trader?

Courage?Courage,I reckon,is personified by Sonny not d'fancypants butterfly.
Ali,to me,he's d'Market.Always hanging out to do d'Big Sting!!while Sonny?he's just getting his second wind,like resting up for d'Comeback!!
Yeah, the Fancy Dancers kid themselves, they never see d'Glory be of just List-on[ening]

Back to watching, waiting.Geez this is a really dull activity, suitable really only for has-beens.Wouldn't want to end me days and have only a CV as a share trader/diddler.

Happy Trading.

Hi dug,
thanks for adding your thoughts.

I should have done this right from the start, but better late than never.......... we need a definition, or definitions of courage before we can discuss what it is, particularly in regard to trading.

To start the ball rolling here is an excellent look at what courage might be.

spider
thank you for post my thoughts on your site. It is how courage is for me and a few of those that I know.
As a person and later on as a trader, I'm ill disciplined. Discipline is a habit that I dont have. I could acquire it, but it would take years. In the meantime, how was I going to follow the rules of my system? Well I summoned up my courage to take those first steps despite my fear of loss and gradually learn to trust my system. There is no substitute for discipline, what courage gave me was ability to get over the initial hurdle, and allowed me time and space to learn a new habit.

Dug,
Time that you read the forum rules again. If you have had a gutful of being respectful and civil to other forum members, take it somewhere else.

Regards,
Colin

Hi dug,
I read your post.

I had to go back and see what my original question was, because it would have been difficult for me to work it out from your 'answer'

"How about a definition of courage in YOUR WORLD dug?"

Originally I thought that you had ignored the question, yet again.
But, that is not true, is it?
Your post is the perfect answer, at least in a way.
I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by courageous people all my life, some have the medals to show for it, and some don't, so I know what I'm looking for.

I think you do too.
I think you would like to show that you have courage, and I believe that you are a courageous person, but you also need to push people away just in case they see that you have these qualities. So you come on all tough and you bluster away, so they will take a step back and not get too close. This is the life you have chosen, so it is a waste of time complaining when you get exactly what you ask for, when people step away from you and do not reply to your posts.

You are right, I have ignored certain posts of your's in the past, because I have "met" you before, and I know what you are trying to achieve, but you will forgive me if I choose not to feed into your game.
I too grew up in a tough suburb, probably much tougher than yours.
You chose to be a part of that world, I recognised it for what it was, and went another way.

That does not make me a better or worse person, only a person who made different choices.

If you don't like your life, choose another one, it's that simple.

I do think it is sad that you think that it is not possible to 'coach' people, there are heaps of people who would disagree with you.

You see it as a "wild world", I see it as an exciting world.

We obviously live in two different worlds.
You are very, very welcome to come and live in my world.

spider.

I havn't a clue what Dug is on about, but then again I have never understood what you are talking about Dug.
From your amount of postings, leaving me in awe, I have assumed that you know what you are talking about. Your postings have been mainly of criticism and therefore have been of little importance to me, but I can't help feeling that you are not as smart a trader as you would have us believe.
