Has anyone had any exposure to Vantage Point software from the US. It is a software package that uses Neural networks to perform intermarket analysis, and provides you with Predictive Indictors that they claim are 80% accurate for changes in trend. Looks quite good (but don't all the sales packages!), but I haven't looked at the price yet. Just curious to see if anyone else has knowledge of the software. Cheers.

HI Davkell I have some experience with Vantage Point. While some may feel you don't need such things to succeed, I tend to take the approach that we are all different. While it may be inherent in some to manage their money well, and thus lead to earlier success, I know others have the hurdles such as personality, emotions, gambling predisposition, lack of money management skills etc to overcome. Vantage Point comes as an add-on package. With the basic package you get a choice of two instruments' EOD data and for a small sum you get to choose a third. For example, you could bundle Metals: (Gold / Silver / Palladium / Platinum / Copper) with Energies (About 5 different OIL quotes such as Brent crude or NY Light, along with gasoline and Natural gas and so on) and add on Financials (20 forex pairs) or Indices (ASX or DOW plus heaps of others) and so on. The success rate claimed would be accurate, but toss in the "human element" and that figure could go to 100% or 0%. Other things to help get value from the package would be sound knowledge of support and resistance as well as good use of Fibonacci levels. Not essential but helpful. Data is EOD downloadable within about 30 mins of the NY close. Charting is functional but sparse. Customise by adding MACD (without histogram) and RSI, Stochastic, bars, candles, lines and so on. I would suggest getting a demo MetaTrader4 platform - Google for one - make certain it contains OIL and Metals as well as FX. Also I would strongly counsel anyone who trades any markets to major in Money Management. That can be as simple as the 2% rule or as sophisticated as the Ryan Jones Fixed Ratio Trading method (Google for it). I would be happy to enter into a discussion if anyone needs to.

Can even be more Hailoh. There is a basic package cost, and then comes the deals. You need at least one Instrument to trade, so in the USA I imagine most would go for stocks or Indices. Then VP bundles other Instruments such as Metals (Gold Silver, Platinum, Copper, Palladium) or Energy (OIl, Gas, Gasoline) after which various offers are made for things like Indices, Forex, and so on - which all cost more, but the more you add-on, the bigger the discount. In the end a trader could end up paying $10k. Not sure of the cost of EOD data, but it would not be free. This is the same as trading an indicator that signals a change in direction, and applying money management to that, only much more sophisticated This is not the place to discuss alternative trading methods - but I can see where this system could take the decision making out of the equation, leaving a trader to concentrate on managing the trade and finding an appropriate exit - where the money is made after all. I would not knock them until I had tried them - but as Davkell is doing, asking questions is a good way to obtain knowledge!

Hey! Cowboy! (Had to say that!) To answer your question, no, I didn't buy VP but a mate of mine in Woolongong did and I have access to the signals. They are actually very good, but like a Falcon GT, you either know how to handle it or you don't! In the case of VP, you definitely need the skills to drive it. I suggest you have a look at some of the free training stuff available here I suggest you have a look at the work of Elizabeth Versace and Bernadette Addison to begin with, and the stuff there by Peter Molloy is also excellent. I get the most benefit from getting the predictive next day highs and lows, and use them to set my Stops. After that I use a multiple of 1.5 times the ATR 10 period indicator. I extend the predictive highs and lows by this value (1.5 times ATR) in order to set my stops for the trade. Like any system, it is only as good as the driver, and it's no good having a Corolla and expecting it to perform like a GTHO, not is it any good owning a 300ZX-TT and driving it like a Dodge Plymouth! You have to know what's in your hands and get the best out of it for what it is. Allan Moffat did!
EDIT: I'm out of town for the next 8 days and unable to reply. Will catch up Thursday week. Cheers. Ingot (Message edited by ingot54 on August 13, 2008)
