SPX 200 and the DMS http://www.incrediblecharts.com/technical/directional_movement.htm. While not claiming practical competence in it’s application, I just can’t help notice what neat a landscape DMS painted for the spx200 trend of late. 1. +DI crossed –DI. A signal of the Bull. 2. ADX crossed –DI. A strong confirmation of 1 with an ADX read of +4 while reversing from below -DI and +DI. 3. A number of notes here... With ADX way above +DI and –DI, conventional wisdom(i.e. hindsight?) indicated a bull makt overheating. Peaking at 3, ADX started it’s decline. Conventional wisdom too (my understanding) dictated profit taking for the DMS trades. About this time too w1 has by accident( truly accidental and neither wisdom nor hindsight) closed all positions. Note too the divergence in the –DI. 4. -DI crossed +D1- the signal of the Bear. ADX while not crossing +DI and not exactly rising oscillated inside 25 and 35 – a level of strength of the cross? Actually confused here on it’s significance but my read was – a sudden strong Bear needed not an ADX cross as in 2. Or was it conventional too to just stay away from trading with DMS? So now for the interesting part. 5. +DI crossed –DI – a signal of the Bull. 6. Will there be an ADX cross of –DI? A confirmation of 5? Let’s do a Right Arrow Click X 2. Hmmmmm. And another click x 2. Hmmmm interesting….!

A very interesting analysis w1. I'm a bit hectic for time to thoroughly analyse your post, but it does seem quite a good look into the Directional Movement system. You have a few question marks in regards to what certain aspects of the indicators mean, especially in relation to each other. Welcome to my world!!!! The Directional Movement system has been argued as one of the best indicators available, and if you can fully grasp the complexities of how it works, at different times and in different markets, them trading with it should provide some exceptional results. But those are my thoughts, and I'm still trying to fully come to terms with its possibilities. My small insight into the system has shown favourable results so far, and as such, I am excited about using it in the future. Cheers.

Hmmmm.. no confirmation of the bull, dave. No ADX x'ing DI-. ADX continues to fall below DI+ and DI-. A lifeless market - that is if your are medium or long term. It’s never lifeless if you are a short term trader. And Officer, this one is really cool! hmmmm... continues...

Instead of a confirmation of the Bull in 5, hmmmmm turns into a bias towards the Bear. DI- has ‘X’ed DI+( ref 6). There is uncertainty in the land. ADX remains below both DI’s. Lifeless! Is it no wonder that after all the efforts and the promise of the week or so I’m just very slightly ahead? To the DMS, a degree of certainty would only return once ADX crosses one of the DI’s. Which DI will it cross? Cont. the right arrow click x 2 and continue the hmmmmm. ..hmmmm..
regards, w1 btw: As usual, may not be making much sense here. But writing one’s thoughts on a particular subject is truly an effective way to get a better understanding. For this reason alone, just allow me to continue with the hmmmmm. Selfish don't wannabe.

hmmmm.. two interesting notes to date... 1. ADX actually crossed DI+(ref.C) after that bear signal at 6. To DMS this may not be a strong confirmation of the bear but a confirmation nonetheless. Is it no wonder then that to a trader-w1, his bears have been the more friendly than his bulls? 2. But for support at the mighty 200 I suspect this could have been a stronger bear. ...hmmmm continues... regards just w1

Good call Wanabe... I noticed that same signal too. Pity I only noticed it. Currently out of the market. Good call once again. Cheers.

I see an ascending triangle here. A consolidation for a break out? The bearish divergence in ADX tells me that bulls are weakening.

On a 2min chart, XJO was trying to bld up an ascending triangle. Day is still long but could be green for voila.. After the nice fades, it's dangerous waters for the XJO. Pull back to the 55xx lvl, then suddenly the scans are full of long setups. Yes, long! At major support, 123pbs w/ narrow bars or tails etc, contrarian or otherwise - would be very attractive buys. No doubt, some limit buys would be filled and buy stops triggered. The 'only' concern is- the target. At support, short coverings could spell the potential but the thought that hungry bears are up there waiting and perhaps even giggling- that scares me! voila..

Sky is the limit for the XJO? Redrawing standard deviation of 2 is suggesting that. Ref. the pink vs the previous white -compliments of the new IC version 10 that is. A mix week it was. At one time, a grand up on BHP but a grand down on NXS(NOT PTD!). That's trading ? pink vs white... regards ps. now back to the laundry! \ (Message edited by wanabe1 on February 10, 2007)

The ASX200 is spot on the 200EMA. It’s also at the 61%fibo retracement. Ref voila ..one for julles… Can it hold against the strong early bear being tracked by DMS? Temptations abound with the scan for oversold bulls. voila..one for julles...
