kate OXR is young gold miner and has just transformed into a copper miner - I doubt if many who buy the stock understand how it derives value. Unlike LHG which has a considerable history and better known story, plus only mines gold. From a "value perspective" OXR is today a far better proposition today than LHR as it has 2 strings to its bow. Yet LHR outshone OXR on this day, and probably will for a while yet because lots of people know it's sitting on a mountain of gold.

Altho markets can turn on a dime, it was at least heartening to see $470 again breached in early US market trade: Where gold ends up is a lottery. On the not so bad side, the DOW has come to life again so don't expect today's bargain basement gold stock prices to come back soon.

It has never failed to amaze me that Gold stocks OXR NCM LHG was bought by big money just hours before price of gold goes up overnight and visa versa.

smallworld And there is no manipulation of the markets, either! On thread, GOLD... Anyone for tea? POG closed the NY session at $471.80 and has continued to rise to a little over $473 as I post this morning. In euro terms POG is @ $388.50 - up just over a dollar from yesterday. The big mover is OzPOG, climbing from $612 yesterday to AU$622 today. Silver starts today at US$7.55 or AU$9.94 (US$7.38 or AU$9.74 yesterday) - which should almost - but not quite - please the McNeil brothers as the elusive Macmin project tries for the magical $10/oz. Now kate, what were you going to do with all that money from yesterday's fire sale?

Rederob Thanks for the info on OXR, I've been following it for ages thinking it was terribly underrated but didn't get in until it broke out from 1.08. Really disappointed it went down yesterday. Fire sale: LHG, OXR, MGX, BSG (for silver exposure, much better chart than MMN, sorry), ZFX, OSH, BPT. All depends on charts mind you. KIM has a nice chart, PEM had one, might still be a potential stage two. Industrials will take a bit more thought. AMP the only one I really want to get back into so far. What am I missing? Regards Kate

Ahoy Katie I am getting out of all my Gold stocks at $493 this month I always leave a $2 tip for the Bandit to pay his overheads This could take up to a month (20 trading days) but I don't think it will be that slow and then the seas may settle down to for you to look elsewhere for the Xmas rush In the meantime tread carefully and Beware of the interest rate rats Salute for now
Crikey! It's been a long time to see a better looking Gold Chart Pattern And that Doji on the OIls needs a good look-over tonite Hmmm! Does not look good for the rest I guess BUT what the Heck? Salute for now

Captain C Thanks for the advice, don't think I'll be going into anything other than gold until I see how the rest of this month plays out. Will definitely bail before the $500 mark. Kate

thommo As this is a GOLD thread your post was totally made to order - just a bit more future focussed. Readers should take care to note that we have essentially had almost three weeks of consolidation in this higher range and are poised for yet another breakout. The bravado of being bullish took a toll earlier this year when the trend waned and ebbed. But that was then, and we now have the circumstances in place that were alluded to many months ago as being the drivers of higher prices: The fact they are at play and prices are now higher is testimony to what will continue to drive significantly higher prices in future.

In case anyone hasn't heard, LHG had a major setback this morning. Looks like its bail now, pick up later at a much cheaper price and buy OXR instead. Kate

Rederob how do you think my precious gold stocks will fare if the xao wants to retrace another 200pts..? Surely the defensive nature of gold stocks (not to mention consolidation of POG at higher prices) will buffet these stocks from any general negative market sentiment...? Cheers .. Tom

Inflation figures are being released in the US on Friday, according to the AFR (sorry no link to post) things don't look good. Gold is the only thing I'll be in, minus LHG that is. Kate
