Ahoy Sea-Cadet-Officer Katie Don't you just hate it when the World Goes Temporally Mad and "They Get It All Wrong"??? Salute and Gods' Speed

Captain C I haven't even tried to trade since I sold up in May, had planned to take a month off, didn't really expect to have two but prefer that to losing a pile of money in all that volatility. May go back in but it won't be base metals, gold or oil until we get a some real sense of direction. Think its a case of shorter trades and taking less profit for the forseeable future. What are your plans? Kate

Ahoy SCO Katie I learnt a long time ago not to make any long term plans The Wind will always Call the Tune ! I agree with you with the Chaos and Confusion in the Resource classes of sail ATM and fully expect those Greedy Landlubbers to take profits I doubt very much whether this bout of profit-taking could breed into a full Yachtsman's Gale and have found it is better to play it "Safe" than to be sorry later on down the track Personally, I only take holidays when I am tired I try to rest up for the Second Quarter leading into/past the New year The "Spring" in Australia / "Autumn" in the Northern hemisphere seems to produce adrenalins in the brain that must be experienced to be believed It probably won't be Officer Red Robert's driving season then but what the heck? Maybe it won't be even be an Indian Summer? However, I will be fit /fresh and the crew will be sea-ready for anything! This is not to infer in anyway that these months are the best there is It is merely to point out that 3 months is about all I have in concentration/full-on power sailing stamina necessary to do justice to your Portfolio at your best This is what I call "All-Out Ocean- Racing" "Sailing" is a limited style of Ocean-Racing where sightings are made every second day a week Opportunities/Speed are lost for having rest days/Golf "Cruising" is what I do most of the time and check my sails once a week on the week-end The Ship is thoroughly surveyed and adjustments are made noted/logged and actions alerted for during the week I know you might call this the a act of a Lazy Seaman and Maybe I am? But believe me When I am on Duty and on Full-Watch for 3 months a year you don't need any more time to double your money After 100% is achieved in the 3 months it just becomes a "Cruise" It is as Simple as that and even supports my "Love" and "Addiction" for the sea for the rest of the year What else is there to do, anyway? Bon Voyage and Gods' Speed
PS It might be a good idea to stop WRITING TLS Calls and change tack to WRITING TLS Puts?? PPS I know there would be a better quarter to go Full-Out Ocean-Racing on the ASX but I have found I am just not in the mood until I can feel a few Spring Yachtsman's Gales on my cheeks and just after the October Bear-traps have been set PPPS Are you still going away this October? Or do you think those sneaky Landlubbers may try to trick us this year? PPPPS Please alert me to SHORT GOLD the next time Officers Archie and Red Robert put Gold and $1000 in the same sentence PPPPPS Seem like the Admiral has dropped his week-end edition of his newsletter since I lost the lead in the weekly competition Thanks for your help Admiral I now agree with you 100% No point in giving away any clues to the Landlubbers and Novice sea-cadets when the Captain is not leading in the weekly Competition?? Let them learn "The Hard Way!" Well done! Crikey! I wish I had thought of that first! Maybe I could have still been Leading? Ouch! Ouch! (Message edited by Captain_Chaza on July 23, 2006)

Captain C, I don't make any long term plans either, the short term ones are hard enough. Archer, the link posted is an addition to the ones you posted regarding rising inflation. So what is likely to happen, the US dollar keeps rising, gold consolidates/goes down fractionally then the dollar and gold go up simultaneously as people realise that the US dollar is pretty much worthless? http://today.reuters.com/business/newsarticle.aspx?type=reutersEdge&storyID=2006 -07-24T165551Z_01_L24613325_RTRUKOC_0_US-ECONOMY-CASH.xml&pageNumber=2&imageid=& cap=&sz=13&WTModLoc=NewsArt-C1-ArticlePage2

"Monetary authorities have lost control of money," said Brian Reading, director at Lombard Street Research, Kate The U.S dollar will continue to fall and by 2010 if not sooner will be dead as the worlds reserve currency Shorter term gold starts to show strength late August so maybe 3-4 weeks of sideways to down gold and maybe retest the lows at 550

Archer Whoops, I meant to say was ".....then the dollar and gold go up simultaneously UNTIL people realise that the US dollar is pretty much worthless?"!! What I really wanted to know was when does the UNTIL happen? Kate

Geee what a surprise --------------- Inflation out and running in the United States The case is very simply, that inflation in the US has got away from the Fed. It is now behind the curve and faces two futures. Either it over-hikes. That future is a replay of 2000-01. Or it under-hikes, opting to live with a 'little bit of inflation'. That probably also ends up ultimately, if later, in a replay of 2000-01. Only arguably worse. http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,19482700%255E36281,00. html ------------------------ SYDNEY (AFP) - Fears of a further hike in interest rates in Australia have grown as producer price inflation (PPI) data in the June quarter SURGED above market expectations, economists said. http://au.biz.yahoo.com/060724/33/tax2.html

archer Indeed, but why so conservative a view? There is nothing in my post of 9 June that I wish to change. I am now quite confident that we will hit (but maybe not maintain) $1000 in late 2007. I believe the recent strong consolidatory phase of gold is about to end and the path upward is going to be rapid.

CONSERVATIVE ??? New all time highs means 250 dollars up in just 6 months to just under 900 Imagine what that will do to quality golds(;->

archer It's not always easy to get a "number" out of you, so plan "b" worked! In case folk have not seen this chart before, the previous high (intraday) was a shade under $900.
Given inflationary effects we would need to hit a substantially higher number than $900 to break the "real" high of January 1980.
