I like buying flatlining stocks supported by a two flat MAs and a positive money flow.

Congrats for catching this one. I came across it after the breakout. It is still moving strongly upward. Is it still a buy? This is a type of stock (with continuing strong trend) that I am not sure how to assess. John

I wish I could tell you because then this would say I know when to exit. I don't know where it will go and how it will get there but since I am in profit I relax and let the market decide. The best time to enter was on breakout because the risk was limited to a narrow trading range. I will hold it until my stop is hit which is above my entry price.

I used to scan for MACD crossovers on the last trading day. I made some great plays and some plays that didn't turn out. I found that some stocks had already made their move before the MACD crossed over. I started to doubt the value of this indicator. I strengthened my selection by adding in a restriction in TMF. I limited myself to divergences. I stopped using it entirely and tried a ton of other indicators and I failed. 75% of my losers moved up by 20% after I sold them. Indicator signals were right but ahead and not behind?!? It's difficult for me to tell if an indicator is ahead or behind the price move and I stopped scanning daily. I now rely on the look of the chart first. In the US I put 500 stocks in a watch list. I look at each one and look for "my pattern". Only a few will qualify. Anything with negative TMF won't make the cut. I then rate them based on the indicators. I keep comparing the charts and eliminate. I usually toss a coin once you get down to two or three stocks (if I don't have the budget to buy them all). I buy using 'buy stop loss' (running the risk of a gap hurting me immensely on each trade). This method works great in the US and yields hits every day but is difficult in Australia. Australia has fewer stocks and my selection method is so strict I am forced to wait for something to come along. This chart is the reason I am doing this. This missed opportunity has changed my life.

Again, thanks for sharing. I am trying to scan for stocks early in an uptrend, but with enough history to give me some confidence that the trend is real. My best example is MKTY, which I bought recently. You appear to be finding stocks that have stalled at strong resistance and are building momentum for a new push up. I started looking for rising wedges recently, which is why I am interested in your approach. Good luck with it. I'll look for another example to discuss. John

Entering is hard, exiting is harder and getting both right is a bitch. I was so comfortable with VCP. I am up 22% and then fear sets in as it crawls backwards. Originally I was going to be in for the next 3-6 months and accept the wide swings. I panicked to be dumped out at 14.18!
There are two ways to make money. Buy and go long-term with a loose stop loss or buy and track the short-term swing with a tight stop loss which prevents to give up more than 2 days of gains. I have done neither of them and got tossed out exactly in the middle. Since I get nervous when I see profits vanish I am more likely to stick with the tight short-term view with intent to re-enter a new chance.

I bought, but got stopped out, so did't make anything. There was good news on the Brazilian economy that drove it up over 15 - I don't know what drove it back down. I also owned EWZ and also got stopped out, but at least I had held it long enough to capture a gain. I have also been looking at GGB (Brazilian steel company) but am put off by the big swings. Good luck down the road. John
