Why is it so hard to prove that it works? Claudius

It is reassuring to see that Claudius has an enquiring mind!

Good morning, Claudius It's just as well we have annual results from the Super funds to prove that Fundamental Analysis, certainly doesn't work!! DR PS: Looking forward to some friendly interstate banter on what should be a deadly dull day on the market!

Hi Dean You've probably got time then to fill in Column C with your Weinstein stages?

Alas, Claudius, my knowledge of Mr Weinstein and his "stage theory(ies)" is non-existent. However, from what I've been reading on this forum, there seems to be more art (subjectivity) than science (objectivity) in identifying in which Stage a stock is trading, and I'm trying to minimise amount of art that is required each trading day. Additionally, I'm not sure if Stage Theory is all that important to my very short term commitment to any particular stock. Best wishes Dean

Dear Dean I anticipated your response ... So I guess you don't want to know that my Weinstein Stage 2 stocks are going up, my Weinstein Stage 4 stocks are going down and my Stage 1 and 3 stocks are fairly steady ... All as expected by Weinstein ... On Average ... With Best Wishes Curious Claudius

The question then is ... Is the Stage identified before the trend (or lack thereof) is obvious, or does one look for the trend and then sagaciously agree that Weinstein is a genius? Hope I too can sell books one day to inform people that a stock price can either (a) go up (b) go down (c) neither go up nor down... Dean (too cynical when it comes to trading gurus and their theories)

Maybe its hard for some people to prove that TA works, but its not hard for me and lots of others who use it to good effect. Snifter

Snifter If it can't be proved to others what's the point of the Forum? Curious Claudius (loves the Forum)

I would be interested to see the results if I entered any ASX 100 stock when the trend began to head upwards. Could we back test from 01 Jan 2003: BUY on 3 weekly green candles SELL on 3 weekly red candles Or something similar that tested entry/exit based purely on the trend (up/down). Comments?

n2w, That might be valid if 3 weekly green candles constituted an uptrend, which it doesn't necessarily. And depending on your time frame, after 3 weekly green candles, the trend might be over. Dave

Claudius Who said TA can't be proved to others? - I do it frequently. And those who've done what I've told them have found that it changes them from unprofitable to profitable traders. Cheers Snifter
