Good morning Colin & Robin, You may have noticed on the ASX Short term thread "AUN -Austar" that I raised an issue of data. http://forum.incrediblecharts.com/messages/8/731753.html#POST86373 Hoping now that you might have some answers. After all this "game" is hard enough without wondering whether data is, in fact, correct. In the 70s and 80s I "ran" many charts by hand and, as you would know, adjusting for equity changes was a matter of calculating adjustment yourself and then cutting and pasting with, wait for it, scissors, glue and paper. Amazing I know but at least you made sure you knew what to do and consequently how the adjustment was done and you could trust it. Rarely does software even note any adjustments let alone give precise data to enable us to check. That, actually would be a very helpful add-on to IC charts. Would give them an edge. So we must be able to trust our chosen package. What can you tell us?
John You've got to know when to hold 'em know when to fold 'em.

Fibonacci, Here is the only dilution on AUN in the past few years: Symbol: AUN ExDate: 18-Jul-03 Dilution: 0.7475 Reason: 1 for 1.52 renounceable issue of ordinary shares at a price of 16c per share The difference in your trendlines on AUN appears to be that Hershy drew his trendline through the lows while you drew through the closes. Regards, Colin

P.S. We do plan to add dilution and dividend markers to the charts. Thanks for the suggestion.

Colin, thanks for your response, especially positive response to capital adjustments. I do, however, disagree with your opinion on trendlines on AUN. We who are schooled in drawing by hand knew to be very accurate, an accuracy level that requires more effort on computers actually. Sorry I diverged but I was careful here too. The lows from which this Uptrend line was drawn occurred in March03 and Jan04 and when they intersected the lows in Mar-Jun05 the difference is noticeable. "NOR" scale of course to match Hershy's use. Hoping you have the time to revisit this as I still believe there is a difference.

John, You are right. Hershy's data is not adjusted for the July 2003 dilution. Regards, Colin

OHK, Thanks for alerting us. It appears like a normal dividend on December 13 but some suppliers show a dilution. I will ask our data suppliers to investigate. Regards, Colin Twiggs

OHK, I have compared our data to FT Interactive -- they show the same December 1 high of $37.99. I have also searched Istar's website but can find no dilutions. Please could you ask Stock Charts why their data is different. Thanks, Colin

I received a reply. <quote> The reason for the difference is due to a data adjustment on December 13, 2005. There was a dividend of $0.733 on that day and all historical data was adjusted downwards. From a technical analysis perspective, we feel we are giving a truer picture of a security's performance over time by adjusting for stock events such as a distribution or a split. Please see this page for more information about our data adjustments: http://stockcharts.com/commentary/mailbag/mailbag20000804.html All recent data adjustments can be found at this web address: http://stockcharts.com/charts/adjusthist.html Thanks for using StockCharts.com, StockCharts Support support@stockcharts.com http://stockcharts.com </quote> Oddly enough their chart looks the same now. It doesn't seem they are sticking to their "truer picture". Including the dividend may give a true picture for the gain/loss one has but it certainly kills the TA approach of support/resistance/trend lines.

OHK, Adjusting for dividends has a certain appeal but the problem is how. A quarterly dividend does not have an impact on the complete price history -- only (a diminishing effect) on data in the last quarter.

I need to get more sleep (or maybe give up my day job so I can concentrate on my interests). Their chart is still different.
