It's a tawdry tale of gambling n vice,chance,and I'm only init as observer,ya gotta unnerstand that.
It's noconvictions nix conclusions;right,chance?
Starts with a card game called"IN_BETWEENS".as its gambling d'rules are simple.-You pay t'play like $1,dis goes into the middle to be called "D'guts".
so its real sociable cos ya not competing gainst 1 n other.your wins or losses come from hitting the guts.So u get dealt 2 cards.an Ace you callhigh or low and u bet you can draw a card "inbetween"yer 2.draw one the same?U lose.
So a round goes -dealt a 6&king.there's $10 guts.u bet by your own choice like$5-Draw 7-Q take $5 out.dont?$5 in.Simple,hey?...

So it's Orientation Week at U.Q.St.Lucia 1972 and archie,he's what was called a Fresher mongst d'old hands,d'PERSONA DRAMITIS like
Bronco Bob-22,chemistry tutor,wore this fringed jacket a la Easy Rider.He was also known as Bottleneck cos he used 1 playin slide blues at a estab.called Willi's Bazaar;but i digress bronco/bottleneck looked like Belushi in a fright wig w/- Hopper's jacket.
Along wid him there's Stumpy[d'Lebanese/greek]
brenno[surfie 6'6" built proverbially]
Freaky Anne-rakishly thin,wore those dresses from India w/-d'mirrors all down the front.She did this "shivering"when she laughed-blokes would do d'rack of jokes just to see her shiiimmmer.u would have to testify that there was more than a glimmer of hope about that Anne.
Anyhow about 8 such as these would gather by 10am for In_Betweens and then go to night lectures if they wanted Further Education.

4th one nix modern sunnies is archie similar.it's in the necklace,bit o eyes.
Any how '72 when Archie joined?$30 was a weeks kick-$10 Rent,$10 Food,$10 entertainment.$30 and you were Happening.
So on a relativity $1000 was probably $17000 today.Archie was to use it 4 a year and he lost it in a week.WHAT did he get 4it?
Well he didn't feel like a misfit.Yeah he was nix alone no longer.He had the genuine esteem of D'Card Carriers but w/- nix $1000 happening,he needed an income that didn't give him d'cut from the "IN_Betweens",so Bronco et al they found jobs 4 him that he could do just sitting at the table and after-hours.....

About now i met Archie.Brenno introduced us,could i put him to use.I knew Brenno from school where we'd run a chain letter scam-Why not just sell the letters,pocket the money,nix sending it on?Yeah we won't get 100's of $$$ from doing 'the right thing'but hey we can pick up $10 each selling 20 letters,sweet.
Brenno even as a schoolboy was a force and sold 50 letters but still gave me my $10 cos i thought of it.Brenno didn't need to be bright,but he was sorta reliable on being fair...

1972 was a very confusing year not least because of Bronco's midnight in d'Lab "Chemistry Experiments".Like the student president was the Guiness Book of Records World Champion Potato Chip Eater.He's gone on to be a councillor in a fringe Briz sattelite town.
In 1972 he represented the reliables known in those times as "D'STRAIGHTS"-Rugger Bugger private schoolies who rather incongrously held 'Smokos'that consisted of drinking kegs of beer and doing that pitch of laughing that ends in technicolour.Their only music was from the strippers tape recorder.The most notorious U.Q.stripper was called LANA[prop?a banana]Brenno organised her and any and every other stripper 4 a year was called Lana.It made the poster easier and set out the Routine..

i meant the song LANA,chance,not orbie goin on alone,again.weird wuz d'big O.
The Bents were a Freaky Anne crowd.Around bout 9:30 am she and her cabal would start talking about the rain last night and how wasn't it hot now.Blink and 3 carfuls of in-betweeners and assorted hangers-on would be off to nearby [then]rural Brookfield to swim in d'creek and follow other rural pursuits natural n nix.
Bronco Bob only went the one time.He had this body' hair shirt' that ruined the "AESTHETIC" but mostly cause he insisted on playing share-cropper Blues and freaky anne always had her tape with "White Rabbit" at least 5 times artfully spliced in and it was much more mood music than d'Bob's "acquired taste" but Bob had this fit and called Anne a Freak[which was ok]but he added fASCIST AND bLACK oPPRESSOR TO IT!
N THAT WAS NIX ok.espec as he was not aesthetic.So brenno inforced a ban/bar on bob,and tried to subvert Anne inta becoming a Lana but i convinced him her audience wouldn't pay cover charges and to leave Anne FREE.
He didn't hit me but i struck him as WIERD from then on..

So on Brookfield Days,bronco bob thought up things 4 Archie to do 4 $.Like to open a bank a/c in the name-Harry Michael Customs.Bronco had a mail-room clerk share cropper blues afficianado who he'd convinced to liberate cheques[intro in brenno helped].
Anyhow Archie aka harry michael would put these H.M.Customs cheques inta them accounts and voila 20%[I DO NOT SUGGEST U DO DIS TODAY]
When D'fan was hit,brenno convinced the clerk on Why not take All D'Fall,bronco chucked in some free guitar lessons sose he'd have a new career and 6months later that ex-public serv is in a band playing lead on Born 2b Wild and having a rocking time uptil when Disco hit.He went OUTTASITE after that.
but D'INBEtweens?Their fate is another sometime story.
