jr you asked on another thread about me investing in biotechs.

There are a few companies that are worthwhile, the question is how can you tell? I looked at them a few years back but they are generally pretty volatile and you really have to keep a close eye on them. Lots can go wrong, as often this stuff is floated well before it is ready for the pharmacy shelves.

Some of the time you are really only buying a good idea. Which is one thing I worry about with the new environmental 'breakthroughs'and the companies marketing them.

All these remind me of mining stocks that are 'gunna' but may not and just morph into the next pop fashion that appeals to the market 'cannon fodder'.

Anyhow, having said that....let me say this!!!!

All jokes aside, when I was looking at the biotechs, I came across what appears to be a very worthwhile newsletter. It has been assessing biotech stocks now for 5 years. I have read a few, they seem very well informed and worthwhile. No mate, no connection whatsoever, before you ask.

I think if I was serious about investing in biotechs I would probably subscribe, even though I am not a lover of tip sheets. This is a very specialist field and you need someone who knows what they are looking at and can't be sucked in real easy.

I'll give you their webb address....

www.bioshares.com.au

Cheers mate

Wombat,
heard of that mag, never read one,too corruptingIMO,like if you can't follow it yourself you'll go with the 'Experts'
and well ,wombat,i've just about had a gutful of experts especially one's of medical science persuasion.Quawks ducks the lot of em,at least the several of my recent acquaintance Can't seem to hold two thoughts consecutively at the same time, and they call themselves Educated.
Anyhow it's the glam gold rush these bio's generate amongst the great unwashed that interests me so i suppose ya just have to play by the chart.
Suppose ya not willing to 'share' which of these shysters you worked for?I'll tell ya a story about a naughty messager boy in the 60's who worked for DHA,if you tell first![better not joe might still be alive, joe d'Pill that was d'boys name]

anyhow, not much genuine chat on bios goes on here IC.maybe we'll have to wait for em to come back into favour, hey wombo?
regards,
jr

jr,

A while ago I mentioned a biotech called Proteome Systems PXL. I said I was looking at buying some. The chairman is Graham Bradley..very ethical mate, very accomplished, brought Perpetual PPT from an $8.00 stock to a $48.00 stock...good man, trust him. I remember at the time you went sort of of "hmmmmmm, maybe he is doing it for charity" or some such comment, can't really remember now.

Anyhow, I watched PXL sink from it's listing price of $1.00 to 69c and I thought to myself..now that looks like an interesting number to buy. So I did.

Strewth mate, the little bastard kept goin down until it started to go glub glub glub. The last time I looked [just now], it was 28c.

When I was looking at the Bioshares site, it said the bloody company had got $20 mill from its float and has burned the lot. Well it was here I thought 'woopty do fluck'!

I was checking back on that site and I'm blowed if I can find mention of that info again...must of vaporized or maybe I just missed it.

Now mate, you probably missed this info, it was a while back now, I think I was talking to Shonky. I said then I failed first grade maths and never improved after that...it was a real tall broad [teacher] who told me at that stage I was hopeless, so I said fine , why bother trying ...so I didn't. Therefore I am not much good at readin them financial reports.

Mind you, I just looked at their half yearly and it appears they have $11.6 mill to go on with and maybe they didn't burn all their cash after all. Could be wrong but.

You couldn't be a sport and take a quick squiz at the thing and tell me if I am totally off the beam.

I won't be offended if you tell me I am an F wit and shouldn't be let loose with the petty cash.

Now the pharmaceutical crowd I was with was a big German mob, who had some excellent products. But for the sake of anonymity, I would prefer it remain nameless.

Just for the hell of it, I should add, Sigma always had an excellent reputation, even long before it was listed . I have owned some and have sold it, like the mug that I am. I think there is still a lot of up potential for SIG. Might look at buying in again if the cowboys can get the prices down a bit more, over this shortin season.

Yeah mate I think you are right, I should peer at the charts a bit more than the biographies of the main players...but that is the fun bit for me...the people I mean.

You know something jr, I have never bothered to ask you if you have any favourite indicators or time frames. What is your fun, time/indicator wise, you know what I mean. What makes you go..."bewdy, I'll have a bit of that".

I have sort of started playing around with them indicator thingos but well I can't really fathom what people are lookin at except a whole lot of squiggly lines. If I went in and out when this line crossed that line, I would be in and out like a blue assed fly.

Like a bit of pork roast do ya mate? Didn't know you was such a good cook but. Must say I like roast chook myself. What vegies do you do with it? Roast spuds are a favourite of mine...any good at cooking them, there is an art to getting them crispy, you know. D'wife isn't real bad at cookin the old roast.

Gentlemen

Just wondered if the chart below was of interest? I've superimposed the XAO over all of the indices individually, and whilst the XHO (Health Sector)has turned down, one of the two industry groups in that sector has not: biotechs. Are they The Next Big Thing?

Ladies first[wombat taught me that,suemac]
That is the first time i've seen a Sector broken up into it's component parts, suemac.Would you be able to post one of Consumer Discretionary like that?Stick it down in SUL sa worry, this bizarre world.I've sold out of SUL so it's sitting there, that thread, not being used but i'd really like to see how those con discrete components, compare to the combined consumer discrete index[not so much the All ords]
If you do?i'll tell you about what happened to mullet heads who called women Ladies during International Womens Year[78]![only if you wanna know acorse, you can pick the topic]
...............................................................

went looking at your PXL,wombat.my mother told me if ya can't say nothing good?well you know the etc.etc,ok?It's just as well they got a stalwart, cos appears they could have you as a perpetual if they don't start selling stuff, lowering their inventories and not rely on funds from 'collaborations with strategic alliances'.

I must say i'm not too crash gun/hot on Reports, myself.Just a lowly bookkeeper specialised in Tax was I.Learnt reading multiple implications/legalese doing that. Now,well now i wanna forget more than i remember.
Gettin d'beloved cranky, diddling on the computer re Pro te ome,she is not placated by me explanation that it's for Wombat, she don't'approve' of you,OW,i don't really know why but goota go.
ahhh whatatownwidout pi(e)TYeeeeee can do.

G'day mate, thanks for lookin at PXL...it is probably goin to be one of them 'till death us do part' stocks. Never mind, woopty do...don't care!!

Now your good lady wife probly doesn't like me, cos you told her about that bit in the thread in General 'For all other times outside of other...' Some of it has been archived now but I think you said she weren't real happy 'cos I suggested some of us have better marriages than others. I upset Suemac in that thread too, she being so happy married, so I am not going to come the 'Hello darlin' with her, nothing personal but.

That is interesting, being able to chart the broken up sectors like that, I wouldn't mind seein that one you asked for too. I wonder if Colin might like to do a break up for us like that.....I know the answer....'We will put it on the 'to do' list but DHYB!!!!

edit. saw ya doin ya thing on ADY, careful mate they might start realizing you are real clever...I know you are... but some of the toffee nose ones are under d'lusion you are a cretin.

ahhh whatatown.

Gents, I look in the discretionary sector and can see the industry groups divided off but when I try to do what I did with the Healthcare and Biotechs, I have the proverbial dog's breakfast.

Nil desperandum, I say. Wait until I can get to the bottom of this and I'll post as above.

As a matter of interest, when did the new sectors come into play?

Cheers!

goodmorning Susan,
don't know when they came into play/division but say 9 months of chart would be sufficient.
My interest is that consumer discrete is such a 'dogs breakfast' of factors from a newspaper to a casino chip with a revamped gold handbag in between[Oroton] that i wish to be given a visual interpretation of it[d'con dis].
It will be confusing, nix pure?Open to any interpretation?
Don't you worry 'bout dat!!
regards,
jr

OK Doggy

This almost seems like a lame attempt at this chart but I put in an SOS to the support team (external, not IC) last night to see if they could help me improve on it but no reply to date; hard to get good help!

You are right, it's a dog's breakfast; perhaps a regurgitated one at that judging by the colour!

XKO S&P/ASX 300 Dark Green
XZI Media Purple
XZF Automobiles and Components Red
XZH Hotels Royal Blue
XZJ Retailing Orange
XZG Durables and Apparel Light Blue

agreed suemac,it looks like one of my hawaiian shirts unraveling,a bit compressed but i still see some points of interest.
hotels which would include casinos appear to be tracking the index.durables, apparel have made a good comeback.
media, retailing, and cars are the drag.cars are atrocious, hey suemac?Keep an eye on AP eagers,i reckon.

durables,apparel,well it's worth a check.

my interest is that this index of share prices is reacting to the anticipation of loss of earnings due to the general economic forecast of 'belt tightening'

i don't do casinos, gaming stocks.it's a shifty industry, too easy to hide money in it but that's just me.I'll have to cast an eye over durables, get to chat with my wife's best friend in Melbourne[she's a top fashion buyer/consultant]run what company i fancy past her.
If you want some info similar,Susan,no problem! as long as you start calling me jr[lower case] that is.

thank you for that chart, susan.i'd be very interested in any general comments you may have.Village Life closed the gap today of 68,some 50,000 shares sold by one/maybe 2 sellers cleared the buy line.

regards,
jr
