Hello Dug

The points you raise are valid and I have tried to answer them below FWIW

I don't know about this one, like I try hey to inculcate to d'calculation r2r's gung-ho on materials but, well "They" don't seem to be responding today to yesterday's Announcement too well.

Down day on the market will do that I’m sure (even if it is close to the div day ...)

2pm VWAP 629 which is only about 10cents [the dividend]up on the Day before announcement. But it's a down day so that's why, right?
I would of thought it would have done more of a Kick along today, but I'm still using past expectations. These days it seems a positive report is a signal to tread water not sprout some wings and whack on 10% to take out ol' worry warts misgivings.

Micro managing a trade does not really work dug - lets see what is happening after the 8th Hmmmmmm - (AWC is in a trading range and may actually respond to HC’s H&S so I’m banking on taking some profit when I can and maintaining an interest for the future)

I see tryhay you're from Woolongong so you're familiar with Industrial Enviromental Shenanigans but I think I saw AWC on d'Telly a while back getting roasted for ruining the SW corner of WA.Aluminium is a messy business. No wonder THEY are worried about China doing their own production. No probs there with Greenies!!and sundry others who like fresh air!

Funnily enough dug we (Water Board) introduced self monitoring by heavy industry/commerce and audit by us (the regulator) ~ some in the community called it as “giving the drinker a breathalyzer” on the pub wall and asking them to not drive home if they were drunk. Was that novel approach a 'waste of time and space' approach ? not really dug ~ most industry found it was in their interests to clean up or move out of our area (generally to Nowra or Gosford/Wyong or be shut down!). Those who went overseas (particularly to China are reinventing the "Acid Rain" syndrome: China cleans up their city’s polluted atmosphere by seeding rain clouds and depending on the rain falling through the sky to clean the pollution from the atmosphere (pretty shortsighted approach and one that will not help the urbanization/industrialization of their country). Dare I say the triple bottom line does not seem to feature in the priorities of the Chinese society - and perhaps that is valid for where they are at, but there is certainly some consequences on their economic/social development. Particularly when you think about how poor western societies still are at this .

You site the WA stage 3 upgrade dug ~ final environmental approval has not been issued but I expect they will move a town out of the smelter's pollution plume (pretty heavy duty if you have been living there for whole of life) ~ to avoid susceptible people getting sick Hmmmmmm

Anyway, you've got ya Stop in place.Watch out for a post-Div gap.
Happy Trading

Yes and Yes dug - I do appreciate your point of view

Happy trading

I love your reply!
In a world gone mad we all want to cut down someone, kill them, or get the better of them, somehow.
dug has a different way with words to the average poster and has copped some interesting feedback on this forum.
I appreciate his "originality" and different thinking on things we might otherwise "assume" or take for granted.
Although the technical traders here can run their set-ups without worrying about what the market is doing (and make profits via trading volume) I am an accumulator and often re-enter the same stock after it has fallen from grace.
I enjoy how dug's perspectives force me to think about a stock in different ways.
In this instance, I enjoyed every aspect of your reply to dug, especially the bigger picture view.

Hi Rederob

I have no warrant on the "correct view" relating to share matters ~ and the only way a website like this is going to prosper is if the discourse is wide (accommodating the other point of view), and I guess that requires all of us being big enough to respect the other's point of view ~ even if we dont subscribe to it. We have to do this because we are all coming from a slightly different perspective/background; the precise thing that widens out point of view from our normally blinkered one!

Funnily enough The Australian (Friday August4 P12 Rowan Callick) has an article about precisely what I rabbitted on about: "China to make industry to pay for pollution"

China is not going to be successful in this endeavor overnight ~ in fact the driver for their newfound environmental concern is predictably the Beijing Olympics. How are they solving the hard parts of the problem? by moving the worst polluters out of the city so that they might meet the national air quality standards (and hopefully not kill/injure too many athletes).

We did the same in Sydney Olympics (by spending $1/2 bill so that the athletes swimming in the harbour did not suffer disease by building the north side sewage storage tunnel).

We (in Sydney) are still suffering from our own oversight (or lack of it) of industry around Concord and Rhodes with the dioxin and other exotic pollutants in our seafood caught in the harbour.

I guess some of this supports dug's interest in the Biofuels shares (and perhaps I should take a closer look at the market segment ).

BTW there are other articles in the Australian & AFR that I'll post into the AWC Long Term thread...
