G'day Many people here use TMF as one of their indicators. For me it's one of my main ones and for a while now I've wanted to be able to do scans using it. Then the breakthrough - why not code it myself! So I got free data from www.float.com.au and wrote a program to get rid of option codes and add in the last close when there was no volume. Later I plan to add code changes and splits. Then I wrote some other code to scan for strong TMF. Currently I'm scanning for companies in the ASX 500 that have on average at least $500,000 turnover (using a 10 day SMA of close*volume) and have 21-day or 100-day TMF at least 0.1725. I figure 0.2 is a strong value but I want to catch the up and comers. It would be good to get some discussion going on what parameters to use for a scan. That way we may provide food for thought for Colin for when he adds TMF to the IC scan. Also, as you can see by the results, TMF seems to be very useful for identifying strongly trending shares. I'm happy to maintain a list as it will be useful for my trading and will hopefully generate some more posts in the long term section. What do you think? Worth doing? Here's the first list, ordered by strength of 21 day TMF. The 1.0 in the "JoinList" column means the share was added to the list today. I'm not tracking what has been removed, but could post the complete list weekly so it's clear. cheers MM Security Name TMF 21 TMF 100 JoinList Ticker Symbol FLX 0.5564 0.4261 0.0000 FLX MAE 0.5422 0.2257 0.0000 MAE SPH 0.5272 0.2396 0.0000 SPH FMG 0.5014 0.3192 0.0000 FMG WTF 0.4687 0.2005 0.0000 WTF UXC 0.4478 0.3573 0.0000 UXC MCC 0.4353 0.2084 0.0000 MCC RJT 0.4344 0.0986 0.0000 RJT COA 0.3906 0.1352 0.0000 COA CMW 0.3888 0.1577 0.0000 CMW RRT 0.3856 0.2020 0.0000 RRT RAT 0.3831 0.3051 0.0000 RAT QGC 0.3795 0.2606 0.0000 QGC OGD 0.3704 0.1738 0.0000 OGD MGX 0.3611 0.2498 0.0000 MGX EWC 0.3573 0.2214 0.0000 EWC TRU 0.3558 0.2667 0.0000 TRU AWB 0.3548 0.1638 0.0000 AWB GAA 0.3544 0.1276 0.0000 GAA NOD 0.3505 -0.0720 0.0000 NOD GBG 0.3404 0.1643 0.0000 GBG TZN 0.3338 0.1306 0.0000 TZN MAH 0.3278 0.2239 0.0000 MAH AED 0.3275 0.2098 0.0000 AED FXL 0.3253 0.2739 0.0000 FXL EBB 0.3188 0.2758 0.0000 EBB PMM 0.3187 0.1936 0.0000 PMM RNY 0.3149 0.2688 0.0000 RNY STO 0.3128 0.1301 0.0000 STO GNS 0.3126 0.1967 0.0000 GNS AIX 0.3099 0.1889 0.0000 AIX AZA 0.3053 0.2206 0.0000 AZA BCM 0.3007 0.1949 0.0000 BCM PMA 0.2969 0.3377 0.0000 PMA CSM 0.2915 0.1749 0.0000 CSM RIC 0.2882 0.1569 0.0000 RIC GRD 0.2835 0.2336 0.0000 GRD JML 0.2693 0.2194 0.0000 JML IRN 0.2652 0.2028 0.0000 IRN PLF 0.2620 0.1239 0.0000 PLF HWI 0.2543 0.2075 0.0000 HWI CAB 0.2448 0.0981 0.0000 CAB LEP 0.2419 -0.0843 0.0000 LEP CUV 0.2417 0.1286 0.0000 CUV DMP 0.2396 0.0719 0.0000 DMP MCQ 0.2374 0.2568 0.0000 MCQ OSH 0.2373 0.0999 0.0000 OSH SMX 0.2332 0.1442 0.0000 SMX ILF 0.2314 0.2410 0.0000 ILF BSG 0.2242 0.1337 0.0000 BSG SHL 0.2231 0.1033 0.0000 SHL SMM 0.2208 0.1845 0.0000 SMM LNN 0.2199 0.0362 0.0000 LNN FUN 0.2169 0.1046 0.0000 FUN AEP 0.2164 -0.0069 0.0000 AEP APD 0.2144 0.0422 0.0000 APD CHC 0.2134 0.1729 0.0000 CHC BMX 0.2110 0.1414 0.0000 BMX IIN 0.2080 -0.0019 0.0000 IIN WHG 0.2074 0.2542 0.0000 WHG BOQ 0.2071 0.1403 0.0000 BOQ NHC 0.2069 0.1288 1.0000 NHC GNC 0.2051 0.2532 0.0000 GNC CIF 0.2035 0.2904 0.0000 CIF ABP 0.2020 0.2526 0.0000 ABP TRS 0.2000 0.1648 0.0000 TRS FWD 0.1972 0.2294 0.0000 FWD IGO 0.1937 0.1139 0.0000 IGO MXG 0.1913 0.0966 1.0000 MXG HVN 0.1905 0.1249 1.0000 HVN KCN 0.1847 0.1007 1.0000 KCN TOL 0.1839 0.0409 1.0000 TOL VPG 0.1834 0.1174 0.0000 VPG MCG 0.1815 0.0586 0.0000 MCG MGR 0.1778 0.0588 0.0000 MGR SLM 0.1772 -0.0085 0.0000 SLM AAN 0.1600 0.2134 0.0000 AAN AUB 0.1489 0.1987 0.0000 AUB TLSCA 0.1487 0.2163 0.0000 TLSCA SGN 0.1469 0.1825 0.0000 SGN BEC 0.1446 0.1798 0.0000 BEC MMX 0.1376 0.1760 0.0000 MMX EQT 0.1154 0.3832 0.0000 EQT AEZ 0.0566 0.1898 0.0000 AEZ

You can't see the forest through the trees. I think the real point is to kill 'IC scan' and implement a programming interface where each user can do what you did inside of IC -- create their own functions and scanners.

Hi Ohkoolnutz I agree, having a programming interface would be great but I think you're dreaming if you think its going to happen anytime soon. For one thing, to do it Colin would need to supply corrected data which means subscription fees would be a lot higher and I think the IC niche is making charting available at an affordable price. Also designing and writing a language interpreter would be a huge job for a single developer (just Robin right?) as the task doesn't naturally fit with what's done now which is to pre-calculate all the scan values overnight. Can't see it happening soon... Well at least one person thinks this is a good idea so I'll keep going for the moment. Hopefully it will prove useful and generate some discussion on how the search can be improved and the shares that come up. Additions to the list are CPA, DOM, DRT, FLT, MAP and ROC. cheers MM

Moleman, Our development team are Robin & Kim. Introducing a language interface is unlikely to happen in the next year: we have our hands full with drawing tools, indicators, stock screens & intra-day charts (hourly & minute bars). The most sensible route is to find an existing interface and adapt it to our purposes. That would cut development time down to a mere 6 - 12 months. Regards, Colin

Hi Colin Sounds good to me. Are you still going to take a vote of what people see as the most important to finish? I reckon stock screens/language interface would be right up there... Shares added to the list are CIL, IWL, MCG, REU, SMX, TAP I'm also playing with a second scan where 21 day TMF must increase by 0.06 in one day, 0.12 over 2 days or 0.18 over 3 days to try to capture early strong movers. This gave: SMY, SMX, SLX, PEM, MMX, MGW, MDT, CIL, CEY cheers MM (Message edited by moleman on June 06, 2007)

The updated list sorted by 21-day TMF. I've added a column to display the weekly % change. You can see some big drops where TMF remains strong. For example CPR dropped 20% and FLX which was the top of last weeks list dropped 13%. Which goes to show you can't just use one indicator in isolation... Would identifying increasing TMF be more useful? If you have an export data function you can program anything you like with standard programing languages or even excel. All you need is the data. Cheers Lafee.

CRT, FLT, IWL, MCW and SGL added. MAH is on the list and closed at a 1 year high today. As mentioned by 007 in the short term section, $1.15 is the ATH from 1997 so it will be interesting to see if it proves to be strong resistance...
