http://tinyurl.com/2dhxfm - Worse to come, warns Bank chief The Bank of England deputy governor has warned that money markets may be set for an even bigger squeeze before the end of the year, as wholesale borrowing rates soared yet higher. ... Analysts have pointed to growing evidence that the market is now heading for a second round of major turbulence, as traders react to the news that banks and investors may have to write down $500bn or more in losses connected with the crumbling US housing market... Local Banks as of 2:20pm
*** Ok, "they" said the local banks are not that "exposed" and they are in good hands, can someone tell me why are they getting a spanking they are not supposed to get? Never mind... ok, I accept they are not exposed. I also accept sometimes pigs can fly. And I am a firm believer on Santa. It's a done deal as far as I am concerned - the local banks are squeaky clean and they are not exposed to sub-prime-itis. Now, let's go back to the news. The chief and deputy bankers of the UK are on record telling everyone they believe there will be more shitletting, oops, sorry, I mean bloodletting by end of the year and blah blah blah... assuming the same thing would happen like today, ie, our non-exposed local banks for some reason, probably due to the non-exposed reason, will be getting another round of spanking due to no fault of their own... ... how unfair! I am beginning to feel sorry for ASX now coz the red letter we are seeing today is not supposed to happen, we should be seeing green, and not red, since the local banks are not exposed, and yet they are the culprit behind the index dropping today! Hmmm,... can someone please let me know, or wake me up when you see a pig flying past your window please? Ta! You're so kind! Smoooochhhh!

Major Banks
Brokers
http://tinyurl.com/2rxcq2 - Countrywide off despite liquidity stance http://tinyurl.com/2pq8rd - Consumer sentiment hits lowest level in two years *** today's listing reads like a bad news galore... and why not? None of them is actually new news - they were mentioned, expected, talked about, and talked about, and then more talked about in this thread - just like an old broken record,... and since it's like old broken record, no one really likes to listen, and since it's like old broken record, no one really likes to listen, and since it's like old broken record, no one really likes to listen,... Stop!! ... sheessh damn lousy broken record is up to its old trick again! Ok, so, on one reckons the Aussie banks will be hit huh? Well may be not so sub-primed but hey don't you rule out the cp/siv/hiv/aids are still riding in the un-exposed books which is not mentionable in the public arena. Of course they have the good excuse in claiming these are better quality commercial assets and they will worth a lot more when demand comes back... sure! I believe them! I am a believer! Expect another 8-10% from here, esp them banks and masters of the universe aka Miracle, DeadcockandbrownRs, oops, no... I mean deadcockturnedbrown, no not again, its browncockisdead.... ok, I give up, its getting a bit rude now. Just why can't they choose some simple and easy to remember name nowaday? Something simple like Pricewaterhousecooperlybrandsernstandyoung... or something like cockandcockandbrownnoseplusbrowneyes! Just love them names!

HC - Thank you for your informative posts and obvious hard work ferreting out this stuff for us. Could you please turn your attention to the Super Funds and other Instos? The pension funds also bought into the sub-prime joke. In this way we are ALL paying for the greedy lenders in the USA. eg If my Super Fund bought a CDO (Collateralised Debt Obligation) and now it is worth nada, then my return on investment in super suffers proportionately. Have there been reports of this in Oz? Have not researched it for myself yet. Best wishes Ingot

Ingot, I am no expert in all these. I am just a cynic when come to the banks and the good-time-will-last-forever financial fraternity and its ra ra media support team. Anyway, I will try, but so far there don't seem to be a lot of news on them. ...while we are talking about CP and the likes, here's RAMS's problem and now becoming NAB's! http://tinyurl.com/35e6fq - Collapse of $6bn refinancing gives RAMS another clip It is understood that NAB is the standby liquidity provider for a $2.7 billion XCP program, with ABN AMRO the liquidity provider for the other program. NAB said yesterday it continued to work with RAMS on refinancing the program. If it did not proceed, "NAB has a range of options available to it, including funding the mortgage portfolio or holding these assets on-balance sheet", the bank said. *** can someone know how these things work provides an insight for all of us please?

here's some observations - big players are not actively selling, so, don't panic just yet. But neither can you relax because they may turn out in late afternoon, never can tell. Also, if you are brave, buy on low (like at the opening) and hope a little because the US markets will be closed for Yank's Thankstakingandnotgiving, so, try imagine this - no bad news from the west - you can expect the local market to show a quick bounce tomorrow - good for a trade. But don't hang in there coz no one wants to hold their stocks over the weekend...

Holy Cow, Was watching TV the other Sunday and there was this scene. It was a Drama about farmers in the Drought. There was this BarBque where the National Party Stalwart Rich Farmer was confronting this younger bloke. Now the rich farmer had just "Broken" the young bloke, bought his farm for a song etc. Anyhow the young bloke got a bit surly, mouthing off, grumbling and the Nat Party Type Rich bloke said something like "I'll knock ya block off" well, then came the bit that prompted me to write this HC. The young bloke unwound to his feet, did the shoulder loose shrug while at the same time "whispering" "Don't let Fear Stop Ya" and doing the grin. Oh HC what a great line, hey? Don't let Fear Stop ya. added in to a situation where the rich but older bloke was pulling "d'Monster". ahhh well,I enjoyed it.Spoke to me. cheers.
Even 'til Jaded. Dig for the sake of it.

Dug, I was bored $#%^&88... better not utter any more rude words - people may take offence Yes, I got a smile on me face. And in particular I like to repeat myself on the application of FA, esp in times like this - nothing has changed, absolutely nothing! Last week's data and forecast is almost identical to last month's data and forecast. Today's data and forecast is identical to last week's data and forecast... so what if the share price got slammed, right? ...but, why the fear? Why so glum? Why only you and I talking here? Where's everyone? Where is Warren Buffett? He would be rejoicing...

http://tinyurl.com/2owehc - Germans fear backlash as China ties cool Preparations for a landmark German-Chinese business conference in China next April have suffered delays, in what organisers suspect could be the first sign of an economic backlash from the deteriorating relationship between the two countries. The Chinese government has warned that bilateral exchanges could continue to suffer unless Berlin acted to improve the “political atmosphere” damaged by the September meeting between Angela Merkel, German chancellor, and the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader... *** not many western countries quite understand the Chinese stance with regard to Tibet and Taiwan... like in this case, the question here - why did the German choose the "tough" option, and then worry about retaliation from China? From China's angle, Tibet and Taiwan is like NT or Tasmania to Australia - whether China has sovereign over both "states" or not in others' eyes is irrelevant. If you find it hard to understand, try imagine this - the Aboriginal leadership in NT decide to make a stance, they exile themselves to an overseas country and then attempting to get "their" homeland, NT-is-theirs-originally through a similar means not unlike what Tibet is doing currently. How'd you react as an Australian? And how'd you expect the Australian govt do? Now different countries may react differently, but, one thing is for sure - Australia will not allow someone else, say Indonesia backing this group of Aboriginals telling her that NT is not part of Australia! It's simply outrageous from Australia's point of view, right? Do you get the picture? ps: I am not arguing for China here, I am just trying to "illustrate"...
