Peter, You can say today is a good day for bigcaps you see in the images - but this needs to be compared with the total volume and value of the whole market. Depending on how it turns out, sometimes you can see only a selected group of stocks are putting up a good show. Today probably is not one of those. I usually watch the high volume stocks with sizable changes - this translates into a lot of $$$$. It kinda gives me a sense where the money is going to - very unscientific. Today is a good day in that the big gainers most have retained their gains - some day you can see they give back all the gain; like the banks today - I think they are still in green but not leading. Cheers.

Volume is down, no doubt, Fundies still need to support their favourites. This will not change. When they go down too much, they need to be prop up till the end of the month where new inflow of super money need to find a home. PL

Hi HC and Peter Looking at the index charts the big caps may have some room to move?
Can't seem to load the asx 300 but you can check it out. The top 20 has yet to make new highs. Suppose its easier to move a mouse than an elephant

Hi MSPARKS, I am very sure of that, with the new composition of the top 50s, NCP's money will flow to the other big caps too, hence march is still on.As long as Corporate Australia can justify the growth in terms of returns, the sailing will still be smooth. Also don't forget the buyback of some of these companies will create a supply shortage in such a sense, investors will have to pay more for it, also less people more share of the same piece of cake makes it tempting for others. For many fundies that have lower tracking errors or index funds will have no alternative but to pay up to get them. Gentlemen, Yesterday's XJO volume was well below average which in a way is saying the big greenies you are seeing above are more of an exception than rule. This is one market symptom I don't like to see because there is a lack of broadbase support. The plus side is the "reds" are not too much into red which I am assuming there aren't many big sellers either. If I have to give it a score - it's a DRAW! Cheers.

HC, Market 8 points up, you call it a draw, what do you call it, if the index stays neutral ie no up no down, sideways? With due respect and a good trading day. PL

Good question, Peter. It depends. XJO Daily
1) Take a look at the chart, do you reckon yesterday was a strong day? 2) the volume in terms of $ was about 2.24bil, the day before was about 2.7bil - see the red candle day? That day's $ volume was 3.59bil except it was in red! (can we interpret that to mean money flowing out?) 3) look at the candles now - note 3950, I counted five candles of which 3 had their peaks stopped smack at around that level. And yesterday's candle? It broke through but guess what? It closed back at or near 3950.5! 4) I need more to give the bulls a win here. Say if they can break clean of 3950 with a decent volume. Right now, at best the bears just got a slight cut and bled a little near the brow - can't say they have lost the fight. Yet. 5) Still a DRAW! Cheers.

HC, Good analysis, But I still think the bears have their tails between their legs.I like your volume analysis, though.Where are they putting all these new money coming into the economy, investing in international equities? Also where are all those money from buyback and NCP sell down?Got me buggered!
