Dug, instead of messing up my other thread, I am creating one here for you... 1) Here are the stocks in the sector, check them out; 2) w14&c=,Here is the NASDAQ telcomm index - take a look at the chart. - in general, I believe telcomm is a highly competitive industry which means what happens in other countries like the USA, Euroland or Asia would mean Australia will have to play catch up. So if you monitor the above index, when it starts to move upward, chances are you will see the local telco stocks will be moving too. Right now it is still going through some serious extreme make-over due to the excessive investment back in 2000; - you should also try to see it from a CAPEX perspective, from 1200 down to 200 in the last 5 years, almost comes across as no investment, do you think this is sustainable? - consider too that high/tech drives a large portion of their hardware and software assets. Product obsolescence and upgrade constitute a fairly large component of their operation and maintenance cost. The lack of investment in this area could mean impediment to the whole organisation's (in Telstra's case, the whole country's) competitiveness in areas of e-commerce and other internet related business functionality and opportunity. AT this day and age, I think information is a must have for every country as it can provide a distinctive advantage in the global village. - the question you are asking should be looked at from this angle - what are the needs people or business have? If they can't get it from Telstra, which competitor is providing it? If there are more than one suppliers, which provides a better service and pricing? Sorry can't be of much help here. The following are some telcos that I had a quick look, the comments are just for sharing, I probably won't commit my life to them... Also I have left out TLS on purpose because I think it's useless to try when there're so many forces tearing at the moment. PEO Weekly

State-supplied broadband will start to be connected to New South Wales (NSW) government departments from October 2005. SP Telemedia, which was awarded the $A300 million contract over Telstra and Optus, says there has been some minor delays. Five major NSW departments representing 80% of public sector staff have committed to using the new broadband "core network", which is a major part of government plans to improve services in rural and regional areas.
