There's a saying that goes like this... "cheap things don't come good and good things don't come cheap"! For a while I thought I'd found something that goes against this saying - Comsec! Yes, I'd read many times before where other users/customers of Comsec complaining about them by calling them names such as "comsuck..." etc. I'd never found Com"sick" to be harsh or nasty to me. It's been good to me! But lately, in the last two months or so, I believe Comsick has reached a point where it has become too big for its own good, or rather it has become too big for my good... it has become sick, too sick to handle the volume of transactions that's thrown at it on a day like this! It's overloaded, not sure if it's a bandwidth or system/capacity problem - it's their problem regardless! But with the system in limbo and is out of reach, it has made whatever I want to do impossible! It's no good to anyone if the system can't perform or staying alive when it is needed most! From a system management's point of view, I think Comsick should sack the whole IT/IS team and send them to the dog pound! I think they have failed and failed miserably! That's my take! I will move away from them slowly starting today... that's for their own good as they have become a glutton that needs to attend a fat camp. And since they are incapable of providing more resources to handle the workload, I think the only way is to force them to face the truth - they are FAT and UGLY! They need to reduce their weight or their customers like me will have to suffer due to their incompetence! Enough said! ps: here's an observation - when was the last time you read about system failure due to overloading? At each market peaks! If you are a contrarian like me, you would read this "symptom" with a more serious disposition - the market is too full of retail investor cum traders!

Pro Trader 2 still seems to be running. Not the friendliest platform in the world so there is probably less users on it.

hc I use Protrader 1 and Ver 2 as a backup only. Ver 2 is not nearly as user friendly and is fairly slow and buggy. I also have Webiress that's ok but the graphics are dreadful. Comsec pro 1 is still my top choice when its working, its frustrating on days like today when its down.

thanks everyone, is there any other platform that is worth considering? Cheers. ps: downloaded PT2, installed and run with error msg saying failure to initialised properly. Could be whole lots of "sh*t" but also could be as simple as their whole farm of servers are running in slow motion! I am giving up for today - a lesson well learned!

You probably know this already but just in case, you are still able to trade by using the Commsec site at http://www.comsec.com.au Just log onto your account and do your trades there. HTH

G'day holycow After downloading and trying to start PT2 on my new computer with Vista I got the same message as you. I needed to go to C:/ Program Files/CommSecPro (the application file with the gold symbol before it) and the right click on it and "Run as Administrator". Trying to first start it from my desktop didn't work and this workaround came from a very helpful CommSec tech assistant over the phone who was a great help to a technophobe like myself. Hope this helps (after the EOD I suggest) 888

There’s nothing like slippage to keep us frozen in the headlights of oncoming danger. To remind us of the risks “Comslip” might be a good name.

Comsec keeps shafting me. I reckon they have got a rat on their trading desk. This crap keeps happening on a certain low volume stock that I have been buying. If I place a limit order to buy above the market, my order gets hang for a few minutes, all the offers at lower price levels get cleaned up (Cross trades mind you) by somebody else and then put back on the market at my limit price. Then my order gets released. So I'm denied the chance to clean up the lower asks and somebody else cleans up by scalping me. If this happened occasionally then it could be coincidence, and fair game but it happens regularly and Comsec don't seem to want to know about it. Comsec won’t even tell me what vetting rule caused my orders to get redirected from the near instant impartial trading platform to the trading desk let alone the sequence of events that occurs in the trader’s hands. I reckon there is something wrong and I don’t appreciate Comsec’s, deny deny deny, it couldn’t possibly happen and we're not even going to bother investigating. Buyer Beware!

Use direct market access platforms, that have no middle "rat".

Peter1 I’ve had the issue happen using both the Protrader and Webiress platforms provided via Commsec. They are both normally straight through, but your order may get re-routed to the dealers for manual execution if it trips on one of the vetting rules built into the platform. (Of which there’s apparently hundreds) It is when the orders get re-routed that I've been having trouble

Dug Nothing significant. My gripe here is not the impact, It’s Comsecs attitude. If what has happened, on more than one occasion now, is NOT just an unlucky “coincidence” than it has to be fraudulent and illegal activity from information only know by their trading desk and me. Comsec don’t care enough about their customers concerns to even investigate. They just state that their systems of control are adequate and nothing unto wards could be happening. Perhaps they underestimate the resourcefulness of some people to find ways to make a bit on the side. They seem more interested in defending their corporate self than paying any attention to customer information that suggests their procedures may not be as watertight as they think. Anyrate, paying good money for poor service is par for the course these days. I’ll just factor it in and work around it. And say what I think of Comsecs attitude on a forum

Where do I start.. DAMM YOU COMSEC FOR BUYING OUT SANFORD. Sanford was great to do option trading. You could easily buy and sell within the day, see your position, see the option course of sales etc. Since Comsec have swallowed up Sanford, I have tried to use their frustrating site, but I am about to give up as it is so hard to drive. It sh%ts me to tears. Before I chose Sanford, I was close to going with AOT, which Comsec also stuffed up. Anyway, I am on the hunt for a new option broker. Can the forum provide a list of suggestions please SL (Message edited by Sir_Lance on May 29, 2008)

Additionally, I am wondering what platforms are out there which give me direct access to the market. Ie - say the bid-ask is 1.30-1.38, then all of a sudden a sell at 1.35 comes in. ie bid ask = 1.30-1.35. By the time I amend or create my buy (30 sec later), this price is gone and the bid ask has returned to 1.30-1.38. SL

SL I had similar problems with Comsec there system is very frustrating to say the least. How they ever won last years best provider beats me. Screens not updating etc etc I only use Comsec for long term buys now. I now use IG http://www.igmarkets.com.au/ Great intraday charting etc Also I use FP http://www.fpmarkets.com.au/ They use the Web Iress system, charting is not quite as good as IG but you have more control over trades than with IG Both have there advantages and fast trading. I have found their support to be much better than Comsec. Not sure if they have access to the options that you trade. but I think they may do. I use them for CFD's

I have just transfered half of my holding to MQ Prime, not sure about options, but their shares and cfd are great.....no charting. they pay interest on positive funding account balances, there is a very good offset formula they use that works in your favour, you have your own account no. you can see your orders in the line, you can see the open and close auction. You can have a long and short trade open on the on stock by using cfd and shares, hedgeing....?? So far very happy with how they conduct themselves after coming from CMC, and then from IG. Moldy

Thanks Philr and Moldy I shall have a more detailed look tonight at the web sites you suggested. I trade BHP options and assume these options would be traded on their platforms, however I closed out a Call option today (bought yesterday) and I tell ya, those MM pretty much took half my profit!! I can't believe the size of the spreads being offered. BHP at 4580 and the MM on BHPR2 were offering bid ask 139 - 150. I think a change to CFD may the way ahead. As for Comsec and Awards !!! Ha what a joke. I was using Comsec for my equity trades (personal) and Sandord for my option trades (company) and used to here things like Comsux etc but thought naaa they can't be that bad. I now know better. SL
