I have been infected by an email from Russian Woman looking for a pen friend. I did not open the email but scrolled to the bottom in the preview window thinking to myself who falls for this crap anyway. There was a picture of a blonde hooker type at the bottom of the writing. The problem is now, whenever i open a genuine email, and return later to look at it , the email is gone, it is not in the deleted box, just gone. All the open emails i had in my inbox, have disappeared. Be warned ! and How do i fix the problem ? TIA I use outlook express This is the only window , under options, that i can see to fix the problem, but what should i do ?

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail You're welcome. You can not/should not get any virus unless you actually/inadvertantly open an attachment. AVG is free and a very good AV programme. I am using it now on my Mac computer for the Win XP partition.

Maybe this link will be more useful Mark. There should also be some handy links in the reply posts. My best tip: Curiosity killed the cat ... flag these for the future as junk. That is ... all emails are guilty until proven innocuous.

I have been using Kaspersky internet security for the last year it is very good and thorough. It is not free however and will cost about $60 I had AVG free before that but Kaspersky found several problems and viruses when I 1st installed it. I had trouble with a virus while using AVG free this prompted me to change. I have also used Norton in the past but found that to be a bit of a systems hog and very difficult to remove.

Hi Ingot I think i inadvertantly clicked via the wheel on the mouse when scrolling back up to delete the email. I really did not want to lose all those emails, the ones filed in folders are still OK. cheers Thanks for the links

Mark I am sure that there are instructions to RECOVER all of these emails within one of the links. Have a closer look down through those posts in one of the links. The fellow writing it is saying that these emails may be invisible, but have NOT actually been deleted - they remain in a directory which can be revealed by following some steps he gives. I am not a techie so I am unable to assist further. Don't despair - the emails are there somewhere and are recoverable yet.
