I had been trading for quite a while a few years back and was pretty much just breaking even. I am now trying to get back into it but only with paper trading. However, it seems that I have very poor skills at picking companies to trade. Much worse than I thought I was. I have read every book I could get my hands on but now I am at a bit of a dead end. I am not sure what I can do now to improve. I was hoping I could find someone experienced who, for a month or two, I could send my 2-3 picks a week to who could tell me what they thought of them. Briefly are they good or bad and why. Is there somewhere on this forum that I could place my picks for such comments? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Jezz.

Jezz A lot depends on what your timeframe is. You mention picking 2-3/wk. Does that mean you are looking at breakout trades where you may hold for only a few days? Personally I find this type of pattern hard to pick. I have more success with medium term (say 3 weeks to 6 months) using methods of Weinstein, Guppy and Hull. I would suggest you create a new thread called Jezz's picks here http://forum.incrediblecharts.com/messages/8/8.html and you will probably get a variety of comments, often with some good FA background as well. I have been posting a few Weinstein-based opinions lately (have a search for my username or Weinstein if you're interested). I find this is a good learning experience when you get a variety of views together, so good luck with your picking. I will follow your thread with interest. Sway

I agree with Sway. Post your charts, in your own thread and I am sure that you will get a few comments. Some comments might help and some comments might hurt, but your purpose is to improve. Before you do, think about your trading plans and choose the setup that you like the best. When you get confused try and keep things simple and go back to the basics. Choose your favourite setup and post the charts of stocks that are showing this setup. Don't show charts that are almost right, look for the perfect setups. Realise that current market conditions may not be right for your setup. We will let you know what we think.

Thanks very much for the replies. I have been trying to focus on one type of chart pattern, ascending triangles. I hope to look for other types in the future but not until I at least get these figured out. I used to post the occasional pick a few years ago but I had one or two people jumping in telling me I should not be posting charts on the forum if I am just looking for help. Instead I should just get back to the books and not bother people as clearly I wasn't ready to trade. From your replies it sounds like not everybody shares this view so I will start a thread with my picks. I might include the picks I made this week and last week that went dead so I can get some opinions on what went wrong there. I hope that's OK. Thanks for the help guys.

jezzcb QUOTE I used to post the occasional pick a few years ago but I had one or two people jumping in telling me I should not be posting charts on the forum if I am just looking for help. Instead I should just get back to the books and not bother people as clearly I wasn't ready to trade. UNQUOTE Absolute load of cr*p -- one of the main problems with this site is that it dos'nt have a beginner's lounge . May be a idea to start the new thread in either the Short Term or Long Term Forums instead of burying it here . Ascending Tris come in various forms though -- you can have a Edwards & Magee Long Term type , a Mini Elliott type at W3 & W5 or Guppy Style 10 day formation types . -- and probably heaps more . . Although I am wary of intermixing different schools of T/A , there can be merit found in what Sway is suggesting with the comments from various schools of T/A and F/A -- for ie : in Guppy Style , Fibonacci is a NO, NO -- yet it is amazing how many times price will find support or resistance at these levels -- can only help if you are aware of what other traders are also looking at and you are blind to . . Just be a bit patient atm -- markets and patterns are just not being very co-operative , so quite a few posters may be a bit reluctant .
The "Sea of Uncertainty" is defeated by the nimble vessel "Probability", not the unwieldy vessel "Prediction".

Yeah, I have had a couple of flags blown out of the water just as they start to break in the last week. The volatility is pretty violent right now. I am holding back on the markets as I don't think my part time nature allows for enough eyes on time to properly manage trades right now.
