Coyotte The problem sounds similar to this: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/557157.html Suggest searching around on Whirlpool site in the Optus forum. It sounds like a Telstra line problem. You can run an automated line check by ringing a Telstra number (I could be 132203 - not sure if that's the one though) and following the prompts to report a line fault. I think one of the menu options allows you to test the line before a person comes on to talk to you. Is the DSL sync light staying on? Good luck Sway

interesting link sway ! Status Light > blinking (always has ) ADSL Light > steady (connected)-- whilst phone is off the hook ,otherwise blinks for around 30 secs then dead , then continues attempts to reconnect but fails (around every 1 min ) thanks

Hmmm. You are losing sync when a phone extension is off hook. I'm still thinking it's a line problem. Have you been through line isolation checks etc with Optus helpdesk? Get ready for a long phone call - but at least your DSL connection will be up! (As you can see I'm a glass-half-full type of guy.) If Optus are like other ISPs, they will have to go through all their standard tests with you before they will refer the fault to Telstra for a physical line check. I had a prob a few months ago which eventually (after buying a new modem and line filter) turned out to be a daggy wire connection somewhere between my house and the exchange. But a Telstra tech had to come out and phsically hook his modem to my line to see the problem before they would believe me that my end was all OK. Good luck again Sway

Coyotte All phones (including a cordless line phone) as you are aware requires a standard filter however for a steady connection and I believe this may be your problem a phone connected to the same filter as your modem should be an ADSL Central filter/Splitter the filter I use is a Dick Smith job model F2431 around $30 it distinguishes a modem from a phone if you have already tried this type of filter then check to see whether all other filters are connected/working properly or replace them with others you have recently purchased.
