These, like a grizzly are nothing to fool around with . Never heard of bears travelling in packs . Most I ever saw together, not counting at a salmon river, was three. BEAR PACK KILLS TWO RUSSIAN MINERS * Story Highlights * Two men killed by bears hunting for food, Russian news agencies report * The pack has stopped geologists and miners from approaching the mine * Attack happened at platinum mine in Russia's Pacific Kamchatka region * Rampant fish poaching in the tundra often forces bears to seek other food. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/07/23/russia.bears.ap/index.html

Not a Miner but same story. Ohio Man Kills Black Bear in 'Self Defense,' Charged With Shooting Endangered Animal http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,391543,00.html This could also happen in Canada. Once shot and killed a large grizzly bear in an exploration camp in northern Canada. It was against the LAW to kill the bear. Was eventually visited by the Mounted Police, along with a bear biologist, patrolling in a helicopter . They were upset that 1] I had killed the bear and 2] had disposed of the evidence so buddy had nothing to study . Told them that our helicopter pilot could show them the bog where he dropped the bear from a great height above ground level so the bear was buried deeply in the bog. I was given a warning not to kill anymore bears. Two more that summer but never reported them. Paddy
