Hi All, I am very new to the sharemarket and would like to play some games before I actually start losing all my money Can someone please advise me where I can download a sharemarket simulator to aid my learning. I've tried googling and know about the ASX competition which doesn't start till Feb 09. thank you for your help!

Shazee, I would suggest just paper trading rather than some form of game. Mostly the games are not based on reality and won't match the way you want to trade (ie personality, timing etc). If you need a challenge set yourself a goal (eg with $50,000 initial capital, I want to be able to earn $1,000 per month). The ASX game is basically a paper trading exercise with other involved so you can measure yourself against others results. Which is all fine and dandy if you are the competitive type, but remember the only real competitor you have in the trading game is yourself. Good luck in taking the plunge, 2009 could be an interesting year to start.

Hiya Shazee, Im relatively new to this as well. We've both picked a great time to learn - if we can turn a profit in this market just watch what we'll be able to do on the next long term bull run! You've probably been practising a bit now, but if you are looking for an alternative for a free mock trading account you can also try tradingroom.com (run by Fairfax). Not sure how it compares with GFT, Ill have to have a look at their site. Also if you want to get onto the ASX game the registrations close in a few days - 17th Feb to be precise. http://www.asx.com.au/resources/education/games/index.htm itd be nice to see if any board contributors here throw there hat in the ring and how they perform. Theres also the weekly picking comp on this site for short term TA - not a simulator at all, just a bit of fun, but you can have a look at what others look for in charts if this is they direction you want to head. If you're lucky they might answer your questions about methodology (I've asked a few questions in other threads but they keep ignoring me so I must be asking the wrong questions or the wrong ppl. Ill get over it. <sob>.) Anyway, good luck! What have you been reading to help get you started? Cheers B. (Message edited by beenjammin on February 15, 2009)
