Trading from home, I have a lurking terror of losing web access at a crucial trading time and not being able to monitor/close vulnerable positions - or worse, getting cut off halfway through setting up leg-ins for multiple options positions strategies. I'm in a major Australian city and I use Telstra Broadband Cable at present. Any suggestions on the most reliable form of web access? Has anyone gone to the extent of putting in redundant internet links of some description? Can dial-up modem speeds (if this is considered a reliable backup) handle live on line systems such as IRESS? All input greatly appreciated - if there is an earlier thread on this please point me to it (I searched to no avail), and we can see if anyone can add an update Thanks B. I used to run WebIRESS via dial up and it was quite usable, certainly good enough for a backup. The best emergency trading backup is a list of your brokers phone numbers and a mobile phone with a fully charged battery :-) Many futures traders have multiple Internet accounts via different technologies (Cable, DSL, Wireless) and multiple computers each with its own UPS and multiple Broker accounts, so that when one broker has a system failure, open positions can be hedged with another...

Thanks Perler! Received a good suggestion - 3G modem. So, I'll go for one fo those, two sims in case one network is down, plus also see if what the highest speed copper line backup I can get. Plus the redundant power supply and computer. Hadn't thought about the second broker account, good point, Ill do some research. Thanks!
