When you install Kerio, be sure to set the security level (under Administration) to Ask Me First. That way you can load permissions for all your known software when prompted. If in doubt, kick it out. You can always add permissions later.

After running smoothly for a few weeks, you can raise the Security level to Deny Unknown. But always reduce to Ask Me First when using new software.

When creating permissions, the most important part is to specify For This Address Only.

Another tip: block all TCP(In) on port 135 to protect against worms.
