If like me you have Norton Antivirus with Office Plugin enabled and since Jan7-8 your spreadsheets are taking ages to load, it is a known problem - no fix as of yet. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2004010810205113 You could always turn the office plugin off until they fix. It's under miscellaneous options in Norton Antivirus. Al

Alan Thanks for the post. I must have been one of the fortunate ones, my office products are running along fine (as fine as MS products go that is). I read the article anyway, and there does appear to be a fix. It says that once the VeriSign update CRL is installed (automatically by IE), it will be OK. Excerpt: In the event that your Web browser does not automatically retrieve the updated CRL, an updated version of VeriSign's Root Certificate Authority, and instructions for installing it, are available on the VeriSign Web site. Not sure if you still have the problem, if so try this. Worth a try. regards Shawky

Shawky, Must have missed that, not fully awake yet, heavy day yesterday. I get the impression it was an intermittent bug because one of my PC's slowed down to a crawl when opening a spreadsheet, at the requesting virus scan stage and then somehow got over it. The other one had the same problem and it did not go away. I switched off the Office plug-in in Norton Anti-virus and everything was ok. A friend of mine had exactly the same problem. I checked the Verisign link and it reckons my PC is up to date, so I have just turned the office plug-in link back on and voilą I am back to normal. Symantec and Microsoft a winning combination (if only they would team up and write trading software.... on second thoughts....) Now all I have to do is find out why I have a grey screen when I request help within Microsoft Office... I have checked the Office knowledge-base and tried most things - seems I am not the only one either. PC problems are like buses, you hardly ever see one and then they all come along at once. Thanks for the quick reply Shawky. Al
