Apologies. I managed to confuse a large number of readers with my last forum announcement. It is amazing what a difference the italics make. The announcement warned that a new virus WORM_MYTOB.CE is circulating. The subject may read "Your Account is Suspended For Security Reasons" or "Account Violation". The content may read "We regret to inform you that your account has been suspended due to the violation of our site policy, more info is attached." Do not open any attachments. The worm operates in a similar way to the recent SOBER worm, where it spoofs real email addresses, so some of these messages appear to come from a legitimate account, but in fact are bogus. Another Virus Warning This is similar to the WORM_MYTOB.CE virus but asks the recipient to click a link in the email rather than an attachment. Here is typical wording: "Dear Valued Member, According to our site policy you will have to confirm your account by the following link or else your account will be suspended within 24 hours for security reasons." The links imitate legitimate website addresses but take users to a false IP address where your PC may be infected with a virus. Regards Colin Twiggs

Our aim for some time has been to create a forum community that effectively moderate themselves. As a step in that direction, we have appointed five senior members to act as an advisory panel to the moderators. Panel members have been selected to represent as diverse a range of views as possible -- some senior members were not approached as a result. The Panel's role will be to advise the moderators regarding acceptable forum behavior and practices; and any revision of the forum rules. The Panel will purely act as advisors: Robin and I will remain as moderators. If we do not follow their advice, however, we undertake to disclose any such instance to the general forum. Decisions by the panel will reflect the majority view and will not necessarily reflect their individual views. All discussions by the panel are treated as confidential. Members privacy is maintained as the panel will have no access to personal details. We will be guided by feedback from individual members, as to whether the panel reflect the views of the general forum community. The composition of the advisory panel will be reviewed every year. I would like to thank the following members for agreeing to participate on the Panel: DeanRosario Hilarius Ingot54 Spider SusieQ If you have further questions, I have created a thread under Feedback. Regards, Colin Twiggs

Bulls, Bears ..... and Badgers There are a number of valuable contributors to our forum. Some are bulls and some are bears, some prefer TA and others FA -- but they all state their position clearly and back this up with detailed, considered analysis. There are others on the forum, whose crowning achievement is to post more than any other member while making minimal contribution to any form of analysis. If they disagree with someone, rather than contribute some new insight or meaningful analysis, they attempt to badger the other party until they leave the forum, sometimes posting up to 20 or 30 times a day. This has to stop. I am sure that many readers would prefer a forum with fewer posts and better quality. Banter should be kept on the Back Page -- badgering (or niggling other members) will no longer be tolerated. Regards, Colin Twiggs

Incredible Charts Data Our service providers in New Jersey have experienced a network outage. This means that our data servers are unavailable until the network is restored. The website servers, located in Vancouver, are unaffected by the outage. We apologize for the inconvenience and will notify you as soon as the servers are back online. Regards, Colin

Thank you for your patience. Incredible Charts Data servers are back online. What we have learnt from this is: no matter how redundant our server and service provider's setup, we are still vulnerable. We will establish further data servers in a separate geographic location. Regards, Colin

Raising Standards There have lately been a number of off-topic exchanges that have more to do with individual member's egos and little or nothing to do with technical analysis. I believe that most readers find them tiresome and, with that in mind, we have amended the forum rules. Changes are shown in red. Show courtesy and tolerance You are welcome to disagree with opinions, ideas, and facts, but please do not take conflicting views as personal criticism -- it would be a boring world if we all shared the same opinions. Under no circumstances will you be allowed to attack, harass or pester other members. Stay on topic Trading and technical analysis are serious subjects. Please keep your posts relevant to the topic and confine any banter to the Back Page. We ask all readers to assist by reporting any breaches of forum rules. Regards, Colin Twiggs

A defective hard disk has been causing problems with the active-passive server array for our website (home page, chart forum, trading guides and ad server). Apologies for the intermittent service over the last few hours. The charts are run on separate servers and are unaffected. Regards, Colin Twiggs

Apologies for the chart forum being offline for most of the weekend, and for the server timeouts experienced during the restore operation ( of the chart forum ) on Sunday morning. The forum was in a corrupted state when we resumed service after the disk replacement Colin mentioned in an earlier announcement on Saturday. Our first attempt to correct the problem without losing any data resulted in a more corrupted forum. We've since restored the forum from a backup and managed to get the problems sorted out. Unfortunately during the restore, which took a while, forum pages were not available and many users experienced server timeouts when accessing the IncredibleCharts web site. With regard to the forum, a few posts posted on Sunday morning were lost - I've reposted those posts based on the email notifications I received. There may well be a sub-thread missing from a subtopic list deeper in the hierarchy of forum pages - I've corrected the topic lists and subtopic lists I was aware of. Please let me know of any subtopic that you suspect has still "disappeared" - I will be able to correct them if there are any. Thanks, Robin

Unable To Connect We have received four reports from users unable to connect to our server. All use the same service provider. We have tested the connection to our server using a Bigpond connection and all is fine. If you experience a connection problem, do a connection test. You should see two green squares displayed. If one is missing, please report this to your service provider. Regards, Colin Twiggs

iPrimus Customers We have now had 8 reports from iPrimus customers unable to connect to our server. They appear to be having trouble with their international bandwidth. Most of the reports started as failure to connect on HTTPS (port 443), but the latest reports are connection timeouts -- indicating limited bandwidth. We have reported the matter to Primus but so far have not received a response. If they do not correct the problem shortly, all we can suggest is that you try an alternative internet connection. Bigpond appear to experiencing problems with their international bandwidth, preventing some users from connecting to our servers. If Incredible Charts times out when attempting to open, please try the Connection Test. If the two green squares are not displayed, please contact Bigpond Technical Support and advise them that you cannot connect to IP address 66.70.45.174 on HTTP or HTTPS. The server will not respond to a PING test, but we have verified that it is available and functioning normally. Regards, Colin

If you are experiencing problems with your Bigpond connection, please do a traceroute and send this to Bigpond Technical Support.
- While connected to BigPond, select Start >> Run
- Type cmd
- Click OK.
- To perform the trace, type or paste: tracert 66.70.45.174 > C:\TRACE.TXT
- Attach the file to your Bigpond email or open with Notepad and paste the contents into the Bigpond support form.
- Please send a copy of the file to us (C:\TRACE.TXT) using a support request (click the Browse button to attach the file).
Regards, Colin
