Vermante, I am only speaking of US markets, You could test the XAO quite easily. Laffee
If nobody can be certain of anything, how can I be certain of that?

To all who want to check the ups and downs of the XAO and the DOW. And it is free. It has history dating back to the Great Depression on a monthly basis. Go to : http://www.bwts.com.au On the left hand side go down to Data Files and click on that. Then Click on Coppock Spreadsheets. You can save this file or open it. It opens in Microsoft Excel. Many I know use it from time to time. Just another useful tool. Regards Michael

If you have some miners and oilers you are probably doing ok but one can see from the XAO over the last few weeks that we are already essentially in a broad if shallow correction. The last few weekly candles all show selling pressure and TMF is definitely heading south. Most of the sectors apart from materials and energy are struggling and today's rate hike will probably hurt financials and consumer stocks so I can only hope that the price of metals both base and precious, along with oil and gas continue to head north otherwise the shallow correction might get somewhat deeper...Tony_M

tony m, Agree with you basically the market is held up by resources and energy, without which the market is really in a retracement.Like any market after a strong rise, it has to take a breather, therefore when resources are having a off day we can see the market going backwards. It is not hard to work out these are mainly industrials.Tony, these good industrials will appreciate in value in the next few months. The question is to sell them and buy them back later if we have to.I have 2 approaches to this. For shares purchased some time ago I will tend to hold them over the difficult period, for recently purchases, I would rather take profit or cut my losses early. The first having the 50% discount on profit to be taken into consideration.

I believe today's interest rate rise, while small, has been a reality check for many people. Dabblers, who really need the money for their mortgages, might seriously re-think their involvement, adding a little pressure to selling. Traders using margin, might also re-think strategy, putting further minor pressure on selling. And the fact that a bit of steam has been taken out of the market, might be a good thing, overall. I suspect the RBA might have had some concerns about a bubble beginning to form in stocks, and this could head-off a more hurtful correction later. Let's just see where this thing goes.

Ahoy SCO Nuggets From my experience Landlubbers have very bad memories and it will all be forgotten by tomorrow! I wouldn't worry too much! (about a small nominal interest-rate hike) Talk about the Mouse that Roared! Tax cuts coming soon and Everyone wins! God Bless All those Brave Sailors who venture on these magnificent and sometimes merciless seas Salute and Gods speed
AND God Bless all those who lacked the courage this week to have a weekly pick I understand it can get very scary at times! You were all Sadly Missed!!!! Maybe it might be a good idea next week to have a couple of Rums first to settle down the nerves and then have a pick? What do you think?

today is an ugly day for advance decline, you'll notice that ASX200 is advdec is down to March low (~4850) & Allords advdec corresponding to a XAO on 29/3 which is 5025. the next support on XJO and XAO is 5116 and 5158 respectively. Looking at advdec right now. I'm not sure if it will hold for long. it looks like 4956 is more of a support.
Of course, we all need to respond to what market is doing, not what we think support will be.

Ahoy Brave and Loyal Officer Smallworld The Captain never thinks! He jumped out of his Leading Resources Yesterday on the hint of unfavourable winds today Seems to have been the right Tack Being addicted to sailing under a full spread of sail and Cashed up for the "Whole Day" I re-entered the metals before the close I kept 25% Cash just in case I was wrong as an escape tack "Safety is Paramount" as you know! I will think about what I have done "Tonite"! There is always Plan "B" Bon Voyage and Gods Speed
PS It was like Shorting my own stocks yesterday and covering today! EG: OXR ZFX LHG I then think I may have made a small mistake! I used the ~5% gain to buy more stock Maybe I should not have increased my holdings by the ~5%? and kept a little bit more cash ??? Too late now! Hmm???? Lots to think about tonite PPS The small caps will always go up if they find "anything"!! I hope???? (Message edited by Captain_Chaza on May 04, 2006)

You might well have been right on buying back today Captain. if it opens up tomorrow, then you're right today. if it opens down, you have still bought something cheaper than you sold, so you're right again. Since I dont know what was going to happen the next day. I can only do the half thinge on profit taking. I sold half my holding yesterday, and a quarter again today. Tomorrow, I'll just wait and see. As suggested, today presented a buying opportunity for those wishing to load up on good stocks. Captain, I understand your frustration. I have taken profits in the past and reinvested, only to strike a reef before getting the cargo to Break-even Port. The ship broke up, and has been in dock undergoing repairs and a re-fit. She has a sleeker hull, and more sail than the opera house. The skipper, Ingot, has undergone re-training, and a sanity test! The result of the test is confidential, but rumours have it that he received a C+ and can sail only if accompanied by a Pilot. He has not yet been granted his master's ticket for open ocean sailing, but has shown promise in sheltered trials. Currently there seems to be a Nor'Wester building up, and Ingot is still in Port. Even if the ship puts to sea, Ingot will be sailing under tight order to restrain sail, and remain in sight of land. No night sailing allowed, particularly as the glass is falling right now.

Ahoy Sea-Cadet-Officer Nuggets She's certainly a "Fine Ocean-Going Type" What do yo think of my ship design for Tomorrow? A little bit of a Lightweight I know, but she could be Swift in the Choppy Seas ahead of us tomorrow? The 3 Sails I re-hoisted this afternoon was the OXR ZFX & LHG and Pyramiding the ~5% "In-house shorting" gains from yesterday great tack
PS Who said I was never in it for the long term? (Message edited by Captain_Chaza on May 04, 2006)
