Today's doom and gloom is not a new thing. Take a look at this site, it's a book written just after the Depression as a historian's analysis of what happened from post WWI prosperity to THE CRASH, by someone who was there. The chapters "The Big Bull Run" and "The Crash" are of particular interest. http://xroads.virginia.edu/~hyper/Allen/Contents.html

Sittingduck A brilliant read, many thanks for sharing this with us The build up to the Crash .. Overproduction of capital and goods .. suppose thats all that crap we import from China then throw out Artificial commodity prices maintained by pools .. Nickel at $55,000 a ton ? Exuberance of banks to margin lend on stocks..hmmm..CFDs for the masses ? The breakdown The self-generating effect of the depression itself. Each bankruptcy, each suspension of payments, and each reduction of operating schedules affected other concerns, until it seemed almost as if the business world were a set of tenpins ready to knock one another over as they fell; each employee thrown out of work decreased the potential buying power of the country. The ten pin game is in progress right now It will be interesting how the next few months pan out Cheers Owl Hey Duck .. we might be related !
