I have just attended a free seminar with larry williams and he mentioned his commercial proxy index. Anyone heard of this or have any idea how it might be calculated. Apparently its some sort of oscillator. Thanks in advance, phill

Was the seminar worth going to? There's one in Sydney in a couple of days... I was thinking of attending. What were the course costs if you take the bait?

About $2000 (1979 or something close) as I recall. I saw an e-mail and considered it but was also going to get the forums feedback first.

Hi phil the proxy is an indicator larry invented that tries to emulate the COT so that you can use it on securities that dont have COT The formula is a secret of course{;->

Yes, I read Larry Williams book on the COT and I thought the book was a masterpiece until he mentioned this mysterious proxy index in which he did not tell how to calculate it. I was really disappointed because the book was a masterpiece until he tried to pull this nonsense. Now, if he is giving a free seminar or a free video on the Internet, I don't mind the tease but this was a book that I paid money. It really pissed me off. Under no circumstances will I ever pay to find out how his silly proxy index is calculated!!! Quite frankly, the world just does not need another technical indicator and most people can live without this one (especially at 2K a pop). I really wished he had not pulled this Vaudeville stunt of not telling how the index is calculated. I smashed the book against the wall in my room and I have not read it since. The funny thing is, I think I figured out how he calculated it a few weeks ago but of course I can not tell this thread... hopefully you are pissed off now too!!! :-)

Ahoy Freebies If a "Secret Keel" is only worth $2000 it is not much of a secret by my reckoning Salute and Gods' speed
"While we stop and think, we often miss our opportunity." Publilius Syrus, 1st century B.C. "I believe the future is only the past again, entered through another gate." Sir Arthur Wing Pinero 1893 "There are two times in a man's life when he should not speculate: When he can't afford it, and when he can." Mark Twain, 1897

I don't think there is anything magical about the $2000 price. It is just how many suckers at 2K can he find that gets his legal bills paid. If he is making the calculation based off of price only which we really don't know for sure but let's make that assumption, then one has to conclude there really is no way to know which part of the price was caused by commercials and which part was caused by idiots. However, since this is a "proxy" index, it does not have to actually show the exact breakdown but a rough approximation of commercial activity. So how could one figure out the commercial activity just from the price? Well, I don't know for sure but, if you make the assumption that commercials are responsible for price activity during normal market hours (not overnight action) and compare this activity to the average price range for the last X number of days, you could get a rough estimation of commercial activity. I don't think the exact number is important because it is only a rough estimation. What is important is the general trend. Again, I don't really know how he calculates this index and I am not going to pay to find out. Larry Williams has made some brilliant observations about the market but he does not seem to be a brilliant math whiz or brilliant quant so any formula that he comes up with is likely to be simple. So if you are looking for a complicated solution, it probably is not the one he is using.
