Hi!
In the The Encyclopedia of Technical Market Indicators, Second Edition. - R W Colby, the 5 ema daily and cci 2 daily produces the best results.
Will it also produce such fantastic results for the Dow Jones Futures?
How the results differ for futures?
Can anybody recommend an indicator for short-term futures trading.

THANKS

Hi Hirameck,

Can you elaborate further how the above indicators are used and what the exit rules are?

Personally, I think if you need a recommendation for an indicator for short term futures trading, then perhaps you are not ready for short term futures trading!

Hirameck

It’s not the tires that made Dick Johnson a fantastic driver; it was his skill, experience, state of mind and dedication.

Indicators only form a base set of tools for trading. Success in trading requires an understanding of not only these tools, but also an understanding and proficiency in risk analysis, money management, your own self, and your own view of the market.

If just starting out, you will not likely have much understanding of your own view of the market, and the initial view is likely to be purely returns related.

There are a number of good books (and other topics/posts on this forum) that talk about the three main subsets of trading – indicators and chart patterns, risk and money management, and psychology. A knowledge gained from extensive learning of other people’s ideas will form a basis to then develop your own ideas and trading philosophy.

Throughout this learning, money must be very much a secondary consideration, except that you will need to have enough money available to pay for the learning and to pay for your mistakes. To survive the learning will require a passion for both the learning process and the trading process itself.

The eventual target of winning money will arrive only after this learning process, of which a large percentage of starters do not survive.

To answer your question in a more direct fashion, the best indicator for short term futures trading is the one which best suits your style.

In the mean time, it will be necessary for you to discover your style.

CR

CR, one of the best posts that I've read on the forum. I particularly like the para on money. 5 stars from me.
