I know it's just an Aussie saying but how do you come to a Black Swan being an unexpected event? Now, I would understand someone from England saying that, because Black Swans are very, very rare over here and as the regulars on here know, I saw my first real Black Swan on a man made lake over here last year and indeed it was a 'Black Swan event'....totally unexpected. What I need to know is why do you say a Black Swan event when you're obviously awash with Black Swans and it can't be unexpected when you see them everywhere? Or does this mean that you don't see them very often and that in fact you are a Pom. lololol Stocky - looks like the snow's going to hit at the weekend. Hope you've still got your snow boots with you from your France trip. How's the cockney accent coming along? lolol

knock off the insults implying i'm a pommie 3rd gen ozzie , born and bred in Sydney town but been to Perth several times since one of my kids moved there, apart from a exhibit in the Natural Museum there, have yet to any swan (black or white) there, the locals will tell you the same, very rare now --- like everything else in Ozz, we've wrecked it. so the saying is and has been applicable even in the land of down under for quite a while .
The "Sea of Uncertainty" is defeated by the nimble vessel "Probability", not the unwieldy vessel "Prediction".

Black Swans rare in Australia!!!!!!! That's where they come from!!!! We've got loads of white swans over here. They would have died out but in the middle ages, they were bred for food, just like chickens are today. The place was over run with swans. lolol. I went to a place called Abbotsbury in England about 6 years ago and it's a sanctuary for swans. They just live there and never leave. I've never seen so many swans in my life. There's over 600 of them and to see them flying in and out, it's like Heathrow airport in the rush hour. lolol. Magnificent to watch. My little girl and I were walking around the place followed by about 20 swans. lolol. They were so used to humans and were so friendly. They're a protected species over here now and so they should be. No swan for tucker over here. lolol. A beautiful bird. The Black Swan I saw was something different though. I couldn't understand what it was at first. Then it spread it's wings and had the white underneath. I must have spent about an hour just watching it doing nothing. lol.

I've got my money in HBOS. Only up to the guaranteed limit though. They're not catching me out like that. lol It's bound to happen with the rises we saw yesterday because they like all this volatility. A rumour here, a word there, the media pick up on it and it starts all over again. It's demoralising for the people stuck in the market though. Just when they can see some light...boom. Off we go again. Made my money of my Dow short today so I'm just waiting for the open. See what happens there. lolol

Apparently Stocky's been seen in and around the clubs of London with a fellow Aussie.....that well renowned singer of yesteryear......the singer of 'Tie me kangeroo down sport'.....yes, Rolf Harris. Again, it's only rumour but well validated by my contacts down in London but Stocky was walking down Oxford Street, just happened to be turning a corner, bumped into Rolf, 'Jeez, watch where your going you f***** mongrel' was Stocky's opening gambit, Rolf threw Stocky a 'g'day cobber' and they've been friends ever since. Sheilas all over them like a rash. Fell on your feet there Stocky. lolol
