First mate spids on deck, mrs first mate is rearranging furniture, so I have escaped for a few moments until she finds me again. fox_terrier, the captain tells me that you are consider joining the crew. I checked your profile, but it was sparse on information. So here is are few of the basic questions that crew usually answer. Remembering that all crew members here are volunteers, no one twists anyones arm. The most important question: Do you want to be a trader, or are you just mucking around? How you answer this question will not prejudice your entry as a crew member as we have places for both groups, but it will help the senior officers should you have any questions. Question: What time frame do you trade in? Question: How long have you been trading? Information: All crew members are expected to contribute in some way. We don't carry passengers. This contribution can be as simple as asking a thoughtful question. All crew members show respect for one another. Sometimes the captain gets a bit agro, but we cut him some slack, as he carries the weight. His role requires great skill and courage, we show him respect. This is an amazing crew, the best you would find anywhere, you would be indeed fortunate to be added to its compliment. Good luck (this great vessel is partially powered by luck) and I look forward to reading your application. First mate spids. .

spider was very happy to see that the good ship was still carrying UEC. I noticed it building up over the week and wanted to draw the captain's attention to it on Thursday night but, I had to leave for BB, so I didn't get a chance to post. The good ship must be getting close to the captain's goal, what with VRE, IMA, UEC, KIM and all the others. The first mate had a record week with his non leveraged positions, but cannot take a trick with his leveraged account. (that's not exactly true, some of my positions are doing quite well, but I am having trouble remembering which 'hat' I am wearing.) I find that I have to treat my leveraged deals quite differently to my straight trades. My limited ability to cash in on the leveraged trades is driving me crazy! Any help that fellow sailors can offer would be greatly appreciated, but remember that spider is a slow learner. This problem is such that I have even tried wearing a different hat depending on the type of trade I am looking at, to reinforce the fact that I have to think differently. This does help, but the neighbours and the postman think I have gone nuts, especially when I'm seen in public with that pretty little pink number with the feathers! As you can see spider needs help! .

Spider , Leverage is high risk , counter balance with low risk trades. Namely Blue Chips - Short term. Objective -push a lot of money into the market with low risk High risk stocks (penny dreadfuls ), counter balance with cash trades - Position size- limited Objective- High return - Risk capital - Low Just my thoughts - Regards Vermante

Spider Not sure exactly what you mean re unable to cash in on leveraged trades. do you mean that you buy them planning a very short term trade becuase they are perceived to be high risk and then find you are now comfortable with them, as they are still doing well, you can't let them go and cash in as per your original plan? If thats the case then I have had the same problem. Several trades I entered knowing they were high risk but they kept on performing so I kept on holding. (Several I bought didn't perform so they were, cast adrift) And now I am seeing them as more medium term. The problem is planning the trade and then being persistent in TRADING the PLAN. My trading plans have an unfortunate habit of changing, sometimes almost daily!!! ( Obviously an emotional response going on here and I trade better when I am busy and can't look at charts until end of day and am reduced to operating on weekly charts for decisions) I tried writing my plans down, but still struggling with remembering what I was supposed to be doing with what. How have others handled their trading plans? Do they always keep to them? Once written do they refer back to them? Susieq (seeking enlightenment)

Hi Spids, Insufficient information provided to give quality advice, but hey that hasn't stopped me in the past..... Can't see why you should be treating the trades any differently. A possible explanation is that the best ASX100 (leveraged account) performers have underperformed the best performers from the non-ASX100/200 (non leveraged account). I'm talking the best performers which may or may not be your selections. So to better measure leveraged account performance you should compare it to the ASX100 performance. In other words have you outperformed your stock selection universe. Perhaps a good measure of performance would be: Are our selection in the top 10% of performers of their peers (Large, Mid, Small, Pennies, Sector, etc). Of course there could be other issues/traps to which I don't think Spider would succumb. For example, leverage puts at risk so much capital that it effects Spiders impeccable judgement; Spider lets interest cost considerations (long or short) effect his judgement; Spider over trades. Best to show Mrs Spids the performance of the leveraged account first, and hope that she doesn't ask to see the complete set of books. Could be a blessing in disguise. Cheers, Mosaic

Hiya spider, I am a bit perplexed as well. Why should your leveraged trades be treated any differently? The way I see it is that the trade is worth what it is worth (total amount invested.. not margin). It is simply that the mechanism to fund is different. You are effectively borrowing from the market maker. The thing is, if you have traded for a while (like yourself), you know your batting average, your max drawdown etc., you can use the multiplier effect of margin, but it will be reflected in your max drawdowns as well. They will also be multiplied as will other measures (like your profit . I am very interested to hear how you see it differently. Cheers MidGe

Ahoy Cap'n, I'm a bit reluctant to follow close on the heals of young foxy above lest the combined weight of the crew overcomes the power of the sails, however sailing solo in your wake and somewhat downwind for some months has been hard work with variable rewards. I would request your permission to come aboard and perhaps assist with the deck scrubbing, keel repair, etc. while I gain valuable sailing experience. I have spent many hours at the helm of late but I am currently repairing sails that were damaged in recent squalls. I have been studying the charts and learning to recognize the direction and strength of the wind but there is always more to learn. My plan is to sail full time but at the moment I have other duties that prevent this. Perhaps in a year or two when I can sail in any weather... You have a very fine ship and it would be an honour to sail with you and your crew. Regards to all, Investinit

Captain Ahoy! If only you had a ship that sailed in the deep waters of the ASX100 instead of the shallow waters of the other stocks Claudius (continually in fear of running aground when on the waters and restricted to the ASX100 Ocean by Deal4Free)
