Yo dicky, glad you are off the shift work. I was just thinking about you. No fixed date so far, probably the middle of next month. In the meantime ,would you like to get together for coffee after work sometime. The beach is good at this time of year, I could come to you, I know that there are a couple of others in your general area who would like to feed their coffee habit. Let me know what you think. spider.

Yo vermante, You are our 20th member. Naturally not everyone can make it to every meeting (we are a far flung group). Members will sometimes bring a friend that they believe will be interested, so you can see that the numbers can be quite elastic. On a different subject........ a little house keeping. Spider has received two excellent suggestions for our next meeting. Uturn suggested that a demo of how to get the best from the IC charts might be a good idea as some of the 'newbies' are a bit confused about what the site has to offer. I think this is an excellent suggestion, but it will depend on the venue we get. I have my eye on an excellent venue which has broadband access, a laptop and a projector. It's near the city but will require a bit of a map to find it. I'll let you know if it comes off. The other suggestion comes from astor. She suggests that we cut down on the discussion / education bit which we normally have at the start, and dive into discussion about specific trades. Spider needs to know what you want from these meetings. I REALLY want each member to let me know what format you would like to see at our meetings. Spider needs to know, so please respond, either directly to spider, or on the forum.

Last night spider and spiderwoman were out celebrating in Belgrave, a pleasant walking distance from spider's place. I discovered that the cafe that we dined at has a private room. So spider is going to explore the possibility of getting this room for an unofficial meeting. As you have probably figured out, Belgrave is not an ideal location for an official meeting as it is so far out of town (it is almost as far as you can go and still be considered in the metro area). So ,for that reason, if this one comes off ,it will be for those hardy souls that are prepared to travel for a little tucker and trading conversation. As I will have to convince these people that they should open this room for us I will need to know how many crazy people would like to be involved. Let me know of any day that you could not make it. I will try to aim at a Friday night, but it will depend on whether they will go along with that. Spider.}

Hi Spider, I like uturn's suggestion re help on the IC site. It would really help this newbie. I also don't mind Astor's idea as well, since discussion of specific trades would teach me what to do (or what not to do) as well. Therefore that would be my education. Belgrave is better for me than Springvale!! (sorry Astor). Most days later in the week are ok for me. I'm very much at the beginning, learning stage at the moment. Unfortunately I'm not managing to find a lot of spare time to do much learning. So I just have to take in what I can, when I can. I really do appreciate all the words of wisdom that I do pick up from IC though. Spyglass

Spider Belgrave is fine by me. As for the topic , Spyglass and Astors suggestions are reasonable for starters as all sectors cannot possibly be covered. Regards Vermante

Spider I have been reading some of your quotes from Jessie Livermore who was regarded as the worlds greatest trader . You might be interested to know that Jessie Livermore committed suicide and was dead broke. source- The 21 Irrefutable Truths Of Trading John Hayden - Page 10.

Yo vermante dude, that's a popular misconception. JL knew the dangers of the way he liked to trade, so he did the wise thing, he put a 'little' away where even he could not touch it. He created a trust fund for each of his children, and one for himself, worth a million dollars each. Each of his two wives held close to a million dollars in jewellery! When he died, the woman he had been living with removed $4 millon in cash and $900,000 in jewels from their apartment and placed them into shopping bags, and gave them to his son. This was 1940, and that was a lot of money. JL suffered from depression, as did a lot of great men from that time. It wasn't an illness that was recognized or treated in those days. He suffered from it all his life, and in the end he couldn't fight any more. He made more money than anyone in the history of trading, but what is more important, he was was able to hang on to most of it. He had a trait that all great traders have, perseverance. Many of the principles of trading that we take for granted come from JL. He had the courage that it takes to make money from trading, and the style to know how to spend it! Most of my information comes from Livermore's biographer. Like most successful men JL went broke more than once during his career, but he did what we must do, he learned the principles of money management, so that he could continue to do the thing that he loved, trade. spider.

Stater / dicky I read Stan the Man Weinstein last year, and effectively stopped trading. Put myself in the sin bin, until I can paper trade myself out of it. All I can say is that he has saved me a heap, by making me aware that I was consistantly trading on the down leg - Stage 3 and not even realising it. By looking at the 150 WMA first it has kept me out of a lot of trades which went with the trend (South by South East) and would have taken me with it. At least I have kept some of my capital in tact, am still learning, and survived to trade another day. Does anyone have a documented trading plan or spreadsheet or piece of paper which one could use plan your moves? I am having trouble putting together something together. dicky could you please send me a copy of your draft plan. I'm actually from Templestowe - but the group appears to be having trouble getting a quorum. Seeing as I am on your side of the river, technically I could belong to the Eastern suburbs. Could I be advised of your next clan gathering please. myklan

A good reason for not putting in 'at market' orders! Have a look at what happened to BBG today. If you have access to a 'todays trades' list for this share you will see a violent dip around 11:30. Someone decided to sell 'at all costs' and took out the small number of buyers all the way down to 580! Naturally it came back almost immediately, but not before some poor turkey got hammered on his sell price. A cautionary tale !! Plan your exit, don't be a victim! spider
