It seems to me warning bells ought to start tinkling for us all - when newscasters (in the latest case Channel Ten news last night) begin to spout the virtues of the current stock market and are again about to tell us all where there is money still to be made in the market.

Caveat Emptor.

How's that jolly taxi-driver's tips coming along anyway?

justice

Recently, a network moron stated on the news that Telstra had dropped back during the day and was one of the worst performing stocks on the market that day. Oh...this newscaster forgot to say that Telstra went ex divi!

As for news (?), check out http://www.aireview.com/index.php?act=view&catid=6&id=2288

Cheers

hi longshanks,
you could almost excuse him the oversight.
Teltra pay dividends out of debt rather than profit as I understand it! Isn't that right?

I think you are right on that one. Still, when you factor in the dividend, they actually closed up for the day.

The whole dividend thing is getting me a little confused anyway. I'm sure I remember being told in lectures that dividends should only be paid out of profits. Ah, financial engineering...ya gotta love it...just don't get caught without a chair when the music stops...

It depends on whether you're trying to flog the company off or not - desperate deception.
