Hey Spider ...

I have a NO COST FREE VENUE. The only drawback of it is that it's in Hastings which is why i haven't mentioned it before. We regularly hold gaming nights there and have had in excess of 40 people and computers there comfortably. It's a largish hall, adjacent to a football field, with tennis courts and squash courts, free bbq facilities, a few fridges, very little traffic noise, air conditioning etc etc.

The only drawback is that it's an hour south of Melbourne, basically if you got on the south eastern and just keep going along that road until you hit the end you'll be there.

Anyway i understand that distance is a problem, but the option is there.

P.S. ... My big computer died a horrible death the other week, hence i've been vacant from the online world.

BUT NOW I'M BACK

Yo dicky,
I think your Hasting venue might get up, I've already had two positive comments so far.

I'm of now to check out the Spenser Hotel.

One of our members has kindly offered the us of their house. We are just working out the details.

I have also written to one of my brokers regarding a city venue. Let you know when I know more.

I hope the Spenser is a winner - Public Transport from Hastings is not what it used to be!

Just got back from the Hotel Spenser.
It was just as good as I remember.
It's an upmarket, small hotel, with a warm and friendly atmosphere.
The food is excellent, the wine list is magic, and there is a full array of beers, several on tap.

They have a private room called 'the long room' which would have been a cellar at the turn of the century.
It would be excellent for our needs, but it comes as a fixed price menu at about $35 a head, we have a choice of three set menus.

I tried VERY HARD to get this room on an a la carte basis, but I was not successful. I understand why, they only have a small kitchen, and the extra numbers would overwhelm them if a large party were to turn up in the dining room.

If we do not want to be locked into a set price per head, we could take our chances with the main dining room, and that is why I sacrificed myself tonight, and forced myself ,and mrs spider to sample the menu at this ' one chef's hat' hotel. (I'm told that it is the only hotel in Melbourne with a chef's hat, and when you taste the food you will know why, this is no ordinary hotel!)

The dining room is small and holds about 30, so we would be at least half of the room. The atmosphere is excellent. They are prepared to turn of the music off when we are there.
If we don't want to go the set menu way, I believe that the main dining room is the way to go.

We arrived at 6:30 and we had the room to ourselves for and hour before the next lot of people arrived.

We will have to contend with some noise if more that the six people that turned up tonight decide to come, We cannot control that without shelling out the fixed rate.

These are the two choices, and I need to hear from you ASAP, as to which way we go.

I have got them to pencil us in for next Wednesday, starting at 6:30. I am due to speak to them tomorrow, as to which option we will take.

This is not a perfect situation, but, as we have not had a meeting for some time, I feel that semi perfect will have to do.

Parking is plentiful. It is a well lit, and safe (as safe as you get in a big city).

So get those little fingers tying and let me know what you want to do.
spider.

Mr Spider, Sir,
I am happy to go to Spencer Hotel and prefer to pay $35 for the Long Room set menu.
The option of sharing the dining room with non participants is not a good idea IMHO. We did that once in a previous group that I was in and we unanimously agreed never to do it again. The restaurant proprietor was as helpful as possible but, even with screens erected, we found that we couldn't focus or hear the person speaking. It's not the same as sitting at one table, you have to follow what is being said a couple of tables away. Other patrons were there to enjoy their evening too. They weren't deliberately intrusive or anything, just enjoying an evening out with their friends etc but the two purposes didn't mix.
Monty

Lol at UEY. Public transport to and or from Hastings is NON EXISTANT.

The Spencer Hotel sounds good to me. I do agree with Monty though in terms of getting a seperate room, probably more for the other patrons benefit than ours. Some of us can get quite heated talking about the markets .

Catch you all later.

Hi all

Am happy to eat anywhere anytime really so my vote goes for the full enchilada of $35 per head in a room of our own. Am not keen on trying to keep noise level down as we sit amongst other diners who may possibly not share our enthusiasm for trading. And definitely not keen on the trip to Hastings and back.

Cheers

Hi people,
Wednesday's meeting is a goer. Almost everyone went for the 'long room', so that is the way we are going.$35 per head, set menu.
I will send out the menu as soon as I get some sleep.
I've been awake for about a day and a half. I got back early this morning after a session of basketball refereeing and settled into bed, a little sore, and a little tired. Unfortunately mrs spider had a sudden and painful attack of something tummy related, so it was off to the emergency room at 3:30am. This is the third time in ten months, and they cannot find anything wrong!
Mrs spider is back home, but very sore, spider is exhausted! It's not much fun watching someone you love, in pain.

Back to wednesday.................... up to now 12 people have put there hand up, with the occasional partner also coming, this means that it will be a tight squeeze, as the room is supposed to accomodate 16 in comfort.
I've seen the space, and I think that we could hold more without too much trouble.

SOME SUGGESTED TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION...................

* Uturn suggested, a while back that we explore the ways to get the best out of the IC charting sight.
* One member asked about identifying suitable Range Trades.
* Discussion of specific shares, for this you will need to bring along printouts of you favourite shares to aid in discussion.
BETTER STILL, POST WHICH SHARES YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS, ON THE FORUM, SO THAT OTHERS CAN PRINTOUT THESE CHARTS AS WELL.
* Short selling.
*Market direction.
*How does the threat of war affect your trading decisions?
* How do you celebrate a good trade?
*Suggestions for keeping the IC forum on a positive footing.

Spider,

Bugger - you guys make me feel jealous - one of the disadvantages of living in the country. :-(

Actually, I'll be in Sydney this Sunday and Monday - Bankstown and Epping way - but have to get back to Port and can't stretch the trip this time - maybe another time.

It would be nice to put a face to a handle.

Yo portmaquarie dude,
any time you are in Melbourne you would be very welcome to meet with us.

There is an open invitation to any regular IC forum contributor. Let us know when you will be in town ,and we will set up a meeting.

Always good to meet out of towners, doing our bit to cheer up those poor unfortunates who have to live somewhere other than Melbourne !! I say 'let my people go' don't force them to live in hostile environments, let them come to Melbourne and prosper !
spider.

Hey Spider,
That's quite an agenda, I wonder what time the pub shuts. All sounds good to me, Bill.
