I wouldn't mind a meeting somewhere. Prefer a beer, but coffee ok too. Most weekdays and evenings are free.

G'day,

Well, the Illawarra Traders had their first meeting this morning and it was terrific. Only 5 of us there, but it's more than I expected.

I think we all learnt a lot and it's great to meet and discuss our concern.

Basically it boiled down to us all having similar concerns. The lack of confidence in our ability and the ability to take a loss. The latter being the most critical part of trading.

If you don't belong to a Trader Group, I suggest you join one FAST as the benefit is inestimable.

We will be meeting again in January, but in the mean time, we will be emailing each other and chatting in the Australian Shares Forum on Paltalk.

Hi Dynamic

I too found the meeting great. I thought the contribution from Stuart (darcyau) on how to identify real trends from false was terrific.

From that I have a question for Stuart ... which I am dying to ask and looking forward to asking it next time he is on Paltalk where he has already made a great contribution ... my question has to do with new trend formation and recognition.

This is the sort of thing where cross checking with each other can help enormously.

We identified several areas where we think we can be of some help to each other (while recognising that we each have different trading styles and time targets from seconds, to minutes, to days, weeks and months as the case may be).

The areas were :--

(1) Exchanging links to charting sites, trading software sites, broker sites & others sites of general interest

(2) Exchanging sources of written guidance ... Weinstein got high marks, along with several others ... I am trying to compile a list.

(3) Helping each other to be more efficient in setting and placing stops ... checking each other's calculation of stops. (Fast traders may not be able to do this in real time for other people but reviewing how stops are set remains a key priority for traders and others to get right ... so we need to review the process and all need to get it as right as we can in the light of our differing needs).

(4) Comparing Chart findings ... especially for entries, exits or just plain avoiding stocks that offer insufficient probability of success.

(5) Researching further the linkage between USA and Australian markets in terms of direction and correlation of similar direction (if true) rather than absolute percentage changes ... which may not be the same.

One member felt strongly the S & P was a deeper more indicative Index than the Dow.

All in all I rate the meeting a success and feel we all helped and hopefully gained something ... I know I did benefit and just the personal meeting aspect is very encouraging.

As to lack of confidence ... I think it is more a matter of separating the disciplines that work from those that add work without profit.

To some extent this comes only with study and the hard work of testing and re-testing ... but any efficiencies which can be shared must be good, especially if better investing or trading efforts and RESULTS can be shown to emerge.

The New Year should be interesting and I hope the group meets again and prospers ... so that we can share with others & them with us.

to meet some time,i had a quick talk with roger on
pal talk today and he said the meeting went well.I
read the posts all the time and i must say there are alot of smart people out there.I am still working on finding the right indicators ha ha,anyway talking to people will help with trading
ideas,anyway i am from the dapto area bye for now.
