The break out screener says it is based on Stan Weinstein's methods. Is there a canned screener set to search for Weinstein candidates? If so, I can't seem to find it. bI just joined IC, do I need the premium membership to get access to the break out screener? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I'm always interested in a new approach so I did a little reading about Weinstein. I didn't know that he is taking credit for the four stages of price action, although I'm familiar with the general criteria defining the stages. Accumulation, expansion, distribution and collapse.

I use a screen that incorporates the 50/150d ma cross (golden and death).

My understanding from the limited reading about Weinstein, is that he used the 50/200 crossing as the bull/bear delineation.

For the purpose of this discussion I have shared a scan of the US markets, for the bearish cross (candidates that have already qualified.), whose price is less than 30 dollars and that trades more than $2 million dollars on the 21day average.

I named it Weiner's death cross, since who knows if he has copyrighted his name. I'm not sure how long it takes to be included in the public scans, but it will be there soon.

Tonight the scan returned 481 equities whose 50ma has crossed below its 200ma.

This is pretty bad huh ?

As an experiment I looked at the lower liquidity equities by removing the $2,000,000/d minimum trading limit, and the scanner returned about 1400 equities.

I think that we may have blinked while the markets crossed in to BEAR territory.

If you tell me more about Weinstein criteria, I'll add some other filters to the screen.

I did a scan using my favorite attributes (normal IC scan) and then selected those from the standard results which possess Weinstein attributes as I understand them:

1. PA above the 30 Week SMA (the purist might wish to use the 30 WMA),
2. The 30 Week SMA rising from horizontal,
3. Volume above average & ideally increasing,
4. Other routine indicators looking positive
5. Preferably a breakout into stage 2 - or alternatively bouncing out from a recent retrace

This list of ~20 resulted from only one of the routine scans that I normally run on the weekend and already I have more candidates that I can usefully use on my current watch list.

List of Weinstein candidates FWIW:

Enjoy the weekend.....
