Every time I enter a stock in the search box, the darn thing goes "DING". Now I know the old song "Zing went the strings of my heart" was a classic, but I don't really want "Ding went the pings of my search" every time I load a stock :-)

Is there any way to disable this dinging sound, Colin?

Many thanks.

Regards, NightStalker

Hi Nightstalker,

Check your systems sound effect settings via Control Panel >> Sounds and Audio Devices >> Sounds

Thanks Robin. But what if I just want it turned off for the IC Charts search box thingy, but to remain on for all the usual generic Windows warnings etc (of which there are many!)? Is there a setting somewhere, like a Preferences setting, that I've missed? For example, Sound Effects on/off?

It's just a bit disruptive when I'm flicking through a list of stocks, and trying to be discrete about it when I'm supposed to be doing something else at work... and the thing keeps going ding...;)

Thanks for your help :-)

Nightstalker,

IncredibleCharts does not provide any sound effects itself - so there is nothing to switch off.

Does your keyboard have a mute button ?

Robin

Aha - yes it does. I can use that - thank you :-)

I suppose though, that the reason for the ding, must be some software process that identifies the fact of entering a stock code in the search box as needing a "Default Beep". Windows then provides the "ding". Could this perhaps be considered for making it into an option in future versions? In other words, whatever is happening in the code-entering that identifies it as needing the beep, could be switched off? If you see what I mean...? ;)

Thanks again for your help :-)

Nightstalker,

The "ding" is controlled by the Windows Sound System settings in that there are various "events" to which sounds can be allocated. The settings are global and affect all programs.

We'll have to look at whether the sound system settings can be overidden by an individual program.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Robin
