Hi all,

Looks like we can expect declining prices from here. Unable to hold resistance with ugly looking candle and strong volume......

Technical analysis is largely making a series of educated guesses that are based on reliable observations of past market behavior. Occasionally the guesses prove to be incorrect, and it is then the function of the analyst to adjust rapidly to the unforeseen developments.

The US markets lost momentum in the last 2 hours of trading. Why?

Maybe traders don't want to be long over the weekend with escalating violence in Iraq in the lead up to handover of power.

If this is the case, and this immediate hurdle is overcome, will the uptrend continue?

Cheers,
Mosaic

Eric2050,

That is correct - indices were reconstituted on the close. Heard this after my last post.

Cheers,
Mosaic

Looks very weak. Is this another lower top?

Is this a head and shoulders?

If it is, then, according to the theory, the projected price will retest the 2002 lows.....

not looking good at all. Expecting some sort of bounce before we retest May support.

"The culprits are record consumer debt, no more tax refunds, an 86 percent drop in mortgage refinancing, high oil prices, the prospect of Fed tightening, the problems in Iraq and the continuation of terrorist threats. All of this is occurring against the backdrop of a burst economic and financial bubble that is still in the process of deflating after being held up by previous massive fiscal and monetary stimulation."

The following chart shows the market's overvaluation in comparison to the nation's economic activity as measured by GDP, which is largely independent of corporate EPS. Again, the stock market will have to decline substantially to bring this important valuation indicator, the ratio of the stock market's price to GDP Warren Buffett's favorite valuation metric to the extremely low level that indicates an end to the current Supercycle Bear Market Period.

SPX Topping Pattern---Jaws of DEath

Hi All

Thought I'd share this pattern with you. I am not an expert, but lost more money in the period 06-09 than I'd care to mention, trying to trade this pattern.

From the attached chart, it is your mission (should you choose to accept it) to guess which direction price will probably take tomorrow.

Extending the range of the idiot approach yields two quite different pictures for the XAO and the SPX. If you have a substantial SMSF interest in equities then the SPX chart would be ringing bells, whereas the XAO chart indicates plain sailing ahead.

SPX quarterly

XAO quarterly
